Openings: “Hello Kitty, Hello Art!” @ Openhouse Gallery

This past weekend New York City got a dose of the Hello Kitty treatment from Sanrio and a load of talented artists. Following a packed showcase for the Hello Kitty, Hello Art book release and exhibition at Known Gallery (covered), Kitty and the crew took over Openhouse Gallery in Chinatown for a pop-up show fit for the big apple. With custom created installation by Dabs & Myla and a limited print release with Betsy Johnson to go along with a new holiday giftshop, it wasn’t shocking […]

Streets: World Roundup (Dec 10 – Dec 16)

Our global summary of street work returns this week with a look around the world but heavily tilted towards Florida due to Basel Week Miami. Kicking things off though is this new piece in Sri Lanka from the UK-based Phlegm. The rare splashes of color seen stem from his use of car paints in this wall. Other notable pieces come from RONE – Miami, Meggs – Miami, Phibs – Miami, Escif – France, Belin x Koka – Mexico (source), Dabs Myla truck – Miami, Prime […]

Openings: Dave Kinsey – “Everything At Once” @ Joshua Liner

Last week, Dave Kinsey unveiled a new body of work at New York’s Joshua Liner Gallery. Entitled Everything At Once, this large series is another step forward in the LA-based artist’s magnetic style of painting. Using his abstract techniques and unique color palate, the paintings convey a world gone mad, with media, perpetual conflict and the struggles between the urban and natural worlds. Also for this show, the works landed on both ends of the size scale – some of his largest to date alongside a […]

Basel Week Miami ’12: Joshua Liner Gallery @ PULSE

While checking out the PULSE art fair (highlights here) during Basel Week Miami, we made sure to stop by the Joshua Liner booth to see what they had to offer. Featuring a diverse mix of work from artists on their roster, we were particularly enamored with a cluster of ESPO works, a new Ian Francis painting, and a new sound sculpture installation in the form of a chandelier from David Ellis and Roberto Carlos Lange. Check out these and more in our photos below… Discuss […]

Basel Week Miami ’12: Invader @ Jonathan LeVine / PULSE

As we wandered the halls of the PULSE art fair (highlights here) during Basel Week Miami, we came upon the booth of Jonathan LeVine solely featuring the work of Invader. After seeing his work up and about town, we now had a chance to see some of the French artist’s tiled creations up close. Also present was the balloon contraption that allowed him to get his signature character up in space earlier this year (covered). While in Florida, the street artist also hosted a screening for […]

Streets: ROA (Australia)

While in Australia recently for his solo showing at Backwoods Gallery (covered), the Belgium-based ROA not surprisingly brought his special form of portraiture to the streets down under. Included in these new murals were pieces painted at the Healesville Sanctuary in Melbourne, a non-profit conservation organization dedicated to fighting wildlife extinction. As usual, ROA chose species that are native to the area to render like the platypus and wombat. Enjoy more photos and a video below… Photo credit: Echidna (Dean Sunshine), All others (Street Art Belgium). Discuss ROA here.

Videos: KAWS Companion Balloon (Macy’s Thanksgiving Parade) on Nowness

Last month, we shared with you a video shot in-studio with KAWS before his Companion Balloon hit the streets of New York for the Macy’s Thanksgiving Parade. Then AM headed over in person to check out the pre-parade preparations before the 41-foot-high version of the NY-based artist’s shy signature character took to the air. Now for those who missed it, NOWNESS has a new video (directed by Jake Sumner) out with footage of the inflatable drifting along the Upper West Side towards downtown Manhattan. Discuss KAWS […]

Basel Week Miami ’12: Hush

While in town for Basel Week Miami, the UK-based Hush (interviewed) spent some time working on some murals with his signature East meets West urban imagery. The main wall was adjacent to the pool at Boulon South Beach, luxury condominiums in the Collins Park Neighborhood. Hush also had some paintings showing at the Corey Helford Gallery booth at PULSE. We’ll have more on that later but for now, enjoy more photos he sent us below… Discuss Basel Week Miami here. Discuss Hush here.

Showing: Boris “DELTA” Tellegen for “Edge Of Space” @ Ron Mandos Gallery

Currently in Amsterdam, fans of Boris Tellegen (DELTA) can check out an installation that is showing at the Ron Mandos Gallery. The locally based graffiti and fine artist was invited to participate in the Edge Of Space exhibition that primarily showcases the work of Ron van der Ende. For his part, Tellegen contributed an inset sculptural installation that continues to explore the transformation of his two-dimensional street work into three-dimensional mixed media pieces. Check out some more of the photos he sent us below… Discuss Boris […]
