Entitled Fragments of a Burnt History, the new body of work is comprised of an installation of found objects and artwork created in the artist’s studio, as well as a new series of monotypes produced in collaboration with the David Krut Print Workshop. Streets: JR (Japan)

After working on a particularly poignant mural in Washingon DC, JR has headed to the Far East to spread his Inside Out love. Going mobile with his giant photo booth in a converted truck, the French photograffeur has been traveling though Japan with his crew and local volunteers, focusing especially in areas hit by the devastating tsunami which still have not completely recovered over on year out. More photos below… Photos via the artist. Discuss JR here.

Todd James x Vistajet

Astute fans may have noticed that Todd James’ new exhibition opening this week in New York is being sponsored in part by VistaJet & Bombardier Aerospace, the same people behind a series of shows by RETNA in the past (covered here & here). At that time, you may also recall that RETNA painted the tail of one of Vistajet’s private charter planes (video here). Well, it looks like James may be creating his own sweet rendition of the project if these mock-up photos are evidence enough. Via Andy […]

Showing: Kid Acne ‘Damn Straight’ @ Inoperable Gallery

Showing at Vienna’s Inoperable Gallery currently, Damn Straight is Kid Acne’s latest body of work with a focus on his stabby women characters. We love these tough sisters of the sword, and the whole mystical world that surrounds them. Graphite drawings, one-off screen prints, mono-prints and paintings are presented along with some of the ouija boards (with a Yorkshire flava) we saw back at his 2009 London show When The Smoke Clears and a series of architectural renderings (hang-outs of the stabby women, we presume). Kid […]

Streets: Anthony Lister (London)

If you remember, AM last hung out with Anthony Lister while he was busy getting up and putting on shows in Los Angeles (see video here). The Australian artist is now set to open simultaneous exhibitions next weekend at both Lazarides the Outsiders locations – London & Newcastle. Unslung Heroes will feature portraits of after-party revelers, rendered in his loose style mainly in a red, black and white color palette as well as some sculptural works. Leading up to the show, Lister has in the streets painting mural […]

Upcoming: Know Hope – “The Weight” @ Known Gallery

Tomorrow night (November 10th) at the Known Gallery, Know Hope will be opening his first solo show in Los Angeles since 2009 (covered). Entitled The Weight, the new body of work from the Israeli street artist explores various interpretations of what weighs down on us, how we got to being there, and how we manage the burdens that we bear through a series of paintings and installations. You can expect some of the imagery that has been a constant for him and his work like his spindly […]

KAWS x MTA wraparounds

Readers in New York should keep on the lookout for special trains decked out in KAWS imagery leading up to the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. If you remember, the NY-based artist will have his Companion character realized as a 40-foot-long balloon for the parade and now has designed a matching look for the MTA Times Square Shuttle (3 whole cars inside and out). Videos: RETNA on MOCAtv

Continuing their strong lineup (also see JR & Barry McGee), MOCAtv has released a new video on the times and life of RETNA (featured). Along with footage from his studio, show openings, and work in the streets, you can also see footage of the MSK / AWR affiliated writer talk about his beginnings, the philosophy behind his work, and what he hopes to accomplish with his art.
