Preview: Meggs – “Truth In Myth” @ White Walls

Tomorrow night in San Francisco, White Walls will be lending their walls to Australia-based painter Meggs as he reveals a new body of work he has been creating on site over the last month. Truth in Myth will feature his comic-inspired imagery infused with kinetic textures and abstract touches played out on multiple surfaces. Besides the aerosol and acrylic on canvas works, his renderings of gods, heroes, and supernatural beings were also painted on plaster skulls, original 1980’s Phantom Comics, and wood knife sculptures. The Los Angeles-based and MSK-affiliated RIME recently made the trip out to New York for this standout wall including the names of Smart Crew members DCEVE and TOPER. As evidenced by his other moniker “Jersey Joe”, RIME has roots and experience getting up in the area which he used to full advantage with this rooftop collaboration or tribute. Upcoming: Futura x Hennessy – VS Cognac Bottle

Remember earlier this year when AM visited Paris to catch Futura 2000 launch his solo exhibition? Well, that wasn’t the end of his affiliation with the country known for some of the best wines and brandies in the world as Hennessy will continue their artist collaboration (see their KAWS bottle) with the graffiti legend. Recently, we saw CYRCLE. at our City Of Fire exhibition (covered) where they showed an interactive piece that had the crowd mesmerized by its spinning panels. Now, they are back on the streets and before last week’s holiday hit, they painted a mural named Beautiful Disaster, which is a continuation of their Cut It Out series which began last year with a wall featuring a flower gun. Openings: RISK – “Old Habits Die Hard” @ Corey Helford Gallery

Over the weekend, the Corey Helford Gallery unveiled a new body of work from the LA-based graffiti artist RISK. The Culver City showspace had only recently curated a group exhibition including RISK that is currently showing in the UK (covered) and Old Habits Die Hard builds on the work from that show with further explorations into neon creations and sculptural pieces. After news broke earlier this year that David Choe’s (featured) Facebook stock had made him a very rich man, he was last seen getting interviewed by Howard Stern and Barbara Walters. Looks like he’s finally surfaced on the Big Island of Hawaii where he picked up some paint again to work on a wall featuring classic Choe imagery with imaginative and random creatures. Streets: Megx – “Lego Bridge” (Germany)

Giving into childhood nostalgia, Megx (Martin Heuwold) has painted an old train overpass in Germany to resemble LEGO blocks. The whimsical painted installation on the bridge in Wuppertal, which has now been converted into a bicycle and pedestrian path, took the street artist nearly four weeks to complete. The result is certainly better, or at least more interesting, than before – don’t you agree? Via Designboom.
