Openings: “FRENCH INVASION” @ Fabien Castanier Gallery

Several days ago, the Fabien Castanier Gallery in Los Angeles hosted a group show for a selection of French street artists appropriately entitled FRENCH INVASION. Featuring the likes of Speedy Graphito, JonOne, Nasty, Rero and Tilt, the space was filled with paintings, installations, silkscreens and sculpture from each artist. The evening was rounded out by a live painting session on a collaborative mural as well as a surprise showing from SEEN and Sket One. Photo credit: Birdman Photos & Guillaume Zuili.

Openings: Samuel Lowder – “Time Machine” @ Shooting Gallery

Last Saturday evening, Shooting Gallery hosted the opening of Samuel Lowder aka Freprs’s exhibition entitled Time Machine. This ex-90’s graffiti artist has fully transitioned into creating pop art pieces incorporating layered stencils, with hidden details to be picked out when viewed closely. Time Machine takes the viewer back around 70 years with a cinematic feel with a colorful twist. Discuss Samuel Lower (Freprs) here.

London-based artist, Word to Mother’s (interviewed) latest offerings were put on display last Saturday evening at White Walls in an exhibition entitled Can’t Afford to be Broke (previewed). With this show, he took his weathered assemblage style and incorporated past and current pop icons with typography to create a commentary on the current state of our economy and society. Streets: The London Police @ Unit44

Last week, Newcastle was gifted a huge new mural all the way from Amsterdam as The London Police painted their iconic characters at Unit44. The duo christened their new wall with a showing at the Hoults Yard showspace including a selection of originals and limited editions. Last week, Known Gallery presented the exhibition titled Sketchy M%#herfuckers featuring artwork by 7th Letter writer RIME and artist KC which showed currently with Dabs Myla’s Break Night Lovers (covered). Streets: Ericailcane (Belgium)

Earlier this month, Ericailcane painted a set of three murals in Ghent, Belgium utilizing his distinctive illustrative style to coincide with the second edition of EI. The renowned Italian street artist painted the pieces on the outer walls of the artists’ workspace ‘het vogelnest vzw’ (Nieuwevaart 118D – 9000 GHENT – Belgium) where an event will be held on May 19th with lectures and a screening of Exit Through the Gift Shop.
