Openings: Urban Legends @ L.A. Mart Design Center

Last weekend at the L.A. Mart Design Center, the Urban Legends auction and exhibition opened their doors to the public. With a series of largescale pieces, murals, photographs, and installations, artists around the world like Chor Boogie, Kofie, Mear One, Shark Toof, Cern, Estria, Martha Cooper, Sand One, Herakut, SANER, Estevan Oriol, Eriberto Oriol, Chaz Bojorquez, RETNA, Andrew Hem, and more were invited to put their work on display. As the work continues to go up in Katowice, Poland for a local street art festival, more photos are continuing to hit the interwebs. Besides photos from Olek, Ludo, Mark Jenkins, and Escif, other muralists have hit the streets with their distinctive work including ROA, Hyuro, Mentalgassi, Moneyless.

Opening on May 26 (and running until Sept 16) at me Collectors Room Berlin is an exhibition featuring the collection of Selim Varol, who is known for being a part of the Toy Giants project, Toykio Cafe and Gallery, and Gallery Springmann.Varol. Teaser: 2012 White Columns Benefit Exhibition + Auction

Currently on auction at White Columns are works from over 80 artists to benefit the not-for-profit gallery near the border of West Village and the Meat Packing District in New York. On May 19th, the Jonathan LeVine Gallery will be hosting a new body of work from Kevin Cyr (interviewed). As the title of the showing In Praise of Rust suggests, the NY-based painter has a love for deterioration and decay, specifically on old vehicles like vans and commercial delivery trucks. A couple weeks ago in Corey Helford Gallery, show-goers in Culver City were hit with a healthy does of pink, courtesy of Buff Monster (featured) – on his birthday no less. Legend of the Pink Cherry follows the LA-based artist’s narrative as his main coned character & hero goes on his travels & adventures. Also on display were a series of Garbage Pail Kids inspired paintings entitled The Melty Misfits which were displayed in the loft area. More opening photos after the jump…
