Openings: Revok – “Triumph and Tragedy” @ Vicious Gallery

Just a few days ago, REVOK, famed graffiti artist and one of the key members of the The 7th Letter crew, opened up his first ever solo show at Vicious Gallery in Hamburg, Germany. Titled Triumph and Tragedy, this exhibit builds on the recent turn in REVOK’s repertoire in which he utilizes found objects gathered from the deserted and forgotten landscapes of Detroit – first seen in a group show at L.A.’s Known Gallery (covered). This technique leads to great texture on every one of his […]

Basel Week Miami ’11 / Streets: ROA

Other than the collaboration with Eine, the ever hustling ROA also found time for other projects while in town for Art Basel Week (like the wall you see above). We are always fascinated by the ways the Belgium-based street painter works in unique architectural quirks into his milieu of anatomized animal murals. This piece above is no different with this marine friend of his chopped in half by a wall element with some copious drips emphasizing the point. More detailed photos after the jump…

Basel Week Miami ’11 / Streets: RISK

Not content to let his MSK brothers (RETNA, RIME) have all the fun, the LA-based RISK also made the trip to Miami for Art Basel Week. Using his unique skills over several days, the influential writer got up this abstract and multicolored gem for his fans in South Florida to enjoy. Thankfully, photographer Koshin Finley was on hand to document everything with his lens. More photos after the jump…

Basel Week Miami ’11 / Streets: RIME

Not only were the street artists active in Miami for Art Basel Week, the writers were out in full force as well. Take a look at this sweet new wall from Jersey Joe aka RIME, whose indoor work we last saw in Los Angeles in August. This piece above was painted in the Wynwood Arts District and spans almost a block. More photos after the jump from Head8K.

Preview: David Flores x Phil Stern @ The Phil Stern Gallery

Tomorrow night, December 8th, the Phil Stern Gallery will debut a new exhibit by award-winning photographer Phil Stern and artist David Flores. If you remember a few months back, Flores painted a mural in the heart of Downtown Los Angeles based on a James Dean photograph shot by the Stern (covered). Interesting enough, it was through the photos of AM photographer Carlos Gonzalez that Stern first saw the mural. The remixed James Dean wall made such an impression on Stern that he decided to open […]

Teaser: Casey Weldon – “Groty” @ Gallery 1988 (Venice)

Tomorrow night (December 8th) in Venice, California, Casey Weldon will be presenting a new set of works at Gallery 1988. Groty will be the first solo show in Los Angeles for the Brooklyn-based painter and will feature more of his surreal portraiture that we have enjoyed in various group shows up to this point. It will be interesting to see what he can bring in a more focused and cohesive setting. Another preview image after the jump…

Releases: Kaws – Black SpongeBob Print @ Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth

For fans of KAWS that have collected the first two colors of his elusive SpongeBob print, the good news is he’s going to be releasing the anticipated third color to round out the trifecta on December 13th. How do you get it? It’ll be released at the Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth where he’ll be unveiling his latest exhibition FOCUS:KAWS. Discuss Kaws here.

Preview: Patrick Martinez – “Reel Tawlk” @ Loft in Space

Tomorrow night in Oahu, Loft in Space will be hosting the newest solo from Patrick Martinez entitled Reel Tawlk. Although he is known for his signature neon urban phraseology (of which this show has plenty), the LA-based artist has been flexing his painting muscles as of late and this show will be no different with a series of portraits (including his own). On the docket will be a diverse selection of work including video projections, portraiture on plush blankets, mixed media works, and of course […]

Streets: Sego (Mid-City Arts) Los Angeles

Recently, Mexican-born graffiti artist Sego arrived in Los Angeles and painted a mural on the back of the Mid City Arts complex. Having arrived from Miami where he was part of the Wynwood Walls project, Sego wasted no time during his time in L.A. with this large scale rendering of a creature which feels both organic and fantastical. Utilizing a color palette and style that has subtle roots in Mexican art, Sego is making strides in trying to bring attention to the growing and often […]

Previews: KAWS – “FOCUS:KAWS” @ Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth

There was no sign of KAWS this year in person at Art Basel Week Miami. Perhaps it’s because he is preparing for his upcoming show, FOCUS:KAWS (teased), at the Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth. Judging from this photo, the catalog is ready to go as well as some installed 20″ tondos in the background that look familiar. This is just the first stop for his upcoming schedule of museum exhibitions as he will move on to Atlanta’s High Museum of Art in February and […]
