Teaser: KAWS @ Honor Fraser

KAWS fans in LA may remember his last showing in the City of Angels not only for the great art, but also for the long lines and large crowds they had to battle to get a look at their favorite artist.  Well, let that be a lesson the second time around as he will be returning to Honor Fraser scheduled for a September 10th opening (perhaps with some Hennessy for attendees to sample).  If these new images and his recent showing with the gallery at […]

Openings: Kid Acne – ‘Kill Your Darlings’ @ Sheffield Museum’s Millenium Gallery

AM was in Sheffield last weekend for the official opening of Kid Acne’s three month run of the Kill Your Darlings solo exhibition at Sheffield Museum’s Millenium Gallery. The exhibition is his first solo show in his now-base of Sheffield, and as it’s hard to walk around the city without catching a glimpse of his outdoor murals and graffiti, it made a nice change to see some of his work in an indoor setting in South Yorks. The exhibition serves as a retrospective of sorts as he […]

Streets: Shepard Fairey – Manhattan

Earlier this month, Shepard Fairey came and visited the Big Apple to work on a few projects (more on that later). In between his indoor sessions, he invited AM to tag along while he worked to beautify some legal spots in Manhattan. Many of you may recognize his classic wheat paste-ups, but Mr. Obey and his assistant Nick have expanded his outdoor tool-set to stenciling. Much like his giant Mandala Ornament mural and he stenciled in Miami and his WeHo Library wall in Los Angeles, he’s […]

Streets: Sheffield Instagram Round-Up

AM’s regular Instagrammer SazaJane is taking a break this week from her London street art round-up, so as we were in Sheffield this weekend for Kid Acne’s opening, we bring you a northern version. We checked out some of the classic Acne slogan based murals that make up part of the Sheffield scenery, along with pieces, throwies and tags by Ema, D-Rot, Phlegm, Motfu, Dscreet and Osk amongst others. Take a look at more pics after the jump.

Openings: Usugrow & Toshikazu – “Oriental Elements” @ Backwoods Gallery

Usugrow and fellow Shinganist artist, Toshikazu Nozaka recently reprised  their 2-man show at Melbourne’s Backwoods Gallery. Usugrow has again created a few new drawings combining flowing lines, skulls, stipple and a self invented caligraphy, and is still able to incorporate them in a new way that keeps his work fresh and progressive. Along with the original ink drawings, he also debuted a few new prints of his recent work, as well as a few framed pieces of his caligraphy. Toshikaizu, who is tattoo artist of 20 years […]

This Thursday, a very special art fundraiser will be held at Joshua Liner Gallery for our friend Tim Strazza who was unfortunately diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis. We are helping to sponsor a benefit event where all proceeds will go to his medical bills. Some of your favorite AM artists have generously donated works for the cause which will be available via a silent auction. Online absentee bids will be available, so please contact the gallery. The art community has banded together to show their support. […]

For street art and graffiti fans out there who haven’t made the trek over to the MOCA yet, make sure you put it on your to do list as you will regret not visiting. Perhaps this new video sent to us by Juan Enriquez will give you some encouragement. The footage includes interview with CornBread, Freedom, Mr. Cartoon, and Shepard Fairey. Discuss this show here.

Streets: Anthony Lister (Los Angeles) Part II

Following a poster campaign which focused on the subject of lost superheroes, Australia-born artist Anthony Lister (interviewed) has arrived in Los Angeles for a unique gallery exhibition which will take place this coming Friday at the HVW8 gallery. However, days before the exhibit, Lister went out on the streets and left his mark on the city with a large scale painting which combines his attraction to both graffiti culture and expressionism. Featuring a large and somewhat deformed face, the wall resembles his recent collaboration with […]

Streets: Blu & Ericailcane (Italy)

Do these two Italian street magicians never stop? After making a pit stop at the FAME Festival and the R.I.P.Arte Festival, Blu and Ericailcane are at it again – this time with a collaboration piece.  This looks like they are taking aim at a popular target – politician, bankers, and corporate types.  The octopus looks to be by Ericailcane and the rest by Blu. See the full mural as well as some in-progress shots after the jump…
