Video/Teaser: Aakash Nihalani – “On & Off (Often On)” @ Carmichael Gallery

Aakash Nihalani will be bringing his unique use of colored tape as a geometric artform to the Carmichael Gallery for a joint show with Mark Jenkins on January 21st. From the sound of things, attendees of the show, entitled “On & Off (Often On)”, will be seeing something fresh and exciting from Aakash for this new body of work. We’ll have more on this later but for now, check out a recent video he did with the good people of Babelgum after the jump…

Teaser: Mark Jenkins – “Meaning is Overrated” @ Carmichael Gallery

Mark Jenkins, who recently did some work in Moscow, will be returning to the States for a show at the Carmichael Gallery. He’ll be bringing in some fresh installation art like the “Spokes” piece seen above for his show entitled “Meaning is Overrated.”  Definitely mark down January 21st and plan to attend the opening as he will be showing with another great artist – Aakash Nihalani. Teaser: Shepard Fairey April 2010 Exhibition @ Deitch Projects

The recent appointment of Jeffrey Deitch as the new Director of MOCA has spurred much rumor and speculation regarding the continued operation of Deitch Projects and their scheduled exhibitions.  It has been confirmed by the museum and by Mr. Deitch himself that all commercial activity on his end will cease by June 1, 2010, meaning Deitch Projects as we all know it will shutter. Streets: Banksy vs. Robbo not finished

It looks as though Robbo and his crew have painted over another one of Banksy’s pieces in Camden. If you remember, what set off this confrontation was Banksy painting over one of Robbo’s historical throwups, which was over 20 years old (although the feud probably had its origins from even earlier).  After Team Robbo went back and remixed THAT Banksy piece, they now modify another one implying that Mr. B is fishing for street cred. Streets: Vhils in Moscow

After his work in Italy for the Fame Festival and in the UK for the Grifter’s group show, it looks like Vhils has moved on to Russia. Moscow seems like a popular target as Mark Jenkins’ work was recently spotted there as well. So, the flag print and political statement from Saber we first told you about here is finally ready for release. “Flag 2010” will be a 11 color Serigraph on hand-made Nepalese Cannabina Fiber with all separations hand-painted in studio at Modern Multiples (who we visited in November) by Saber.
