As we mentioned in a previous article, D*Face (interviewed) is in Los Angeles now for various projects (more on this later). One of the things he’s participating in is the LA Freeswalls – 50,000 sq. ft. of wall space has been set aside in the heart of the arts district in Los Angeles.  In this video, you can see him painting a side by side mural reminiscent of the one he did recently in New York when he was in town for his LeVine show (covered). Preview/Setup: Dan Witz – “Dark Doings” @ Carmichael Gallery

We stopped by last night at the Carmichael Gallery to take a look at how the Dan Witz show was shaping up. Entitled “Dark Doings,” Witz opted to base his show around his street work this time around as he is also known for his light infused oil paintings. The show will consist of mostly limited edition pieces (half which are placed in the streets) which also come with a photograph of the piece in it’s urban setting. As evidenced by the piece we highlighted […]

Update: C215

In anticipation of his coming group show with Logan Hicks at Show & Tell Gallery (previewed), our friend Butterfly met up with C215 aka Christian Guemy to visit his new studio in the neighborhood of Vitry-sur-Seine of Paris. The tour was followed up by a cool street session where C215 worked the neighborhood. The ever creative urban artist stenciled his new surroundings and worked to create pieces representative of his trips from all around the world. More after the jump.

There as been one great show after another; kinda overwhelming in a great way as we bring you another segment of Second Helpings to recap some of the juiciest stories of the month. Get served after the jump.

Preview: “Go Get Your Shinebox” @ Brooklynite Gallery

Brooklynite Gallery has a pretty interesting show opening on the 21st of this month entitled “Go Get Your Shinebox.” Artists were asked to create their vision of what a “shoeshine box” was, the simplest way to make a living during the economic downturn and perhaps even take a step further to create “survival boxes.” With such a open ended theme show, you can expect a varied response with boxes of all shapes and sizes. Take a look at more after the jump…

Streets: Dan Witz – Halloween Piece

What better to way for Dan Witz to celebrate Halloween and get ready for his show next week than to put up one of his famous street pieces but with a pumpkin day twist. About a year ago, we introduced you to Witz’s Kilroy Variations – photorealistic images of people stuck behind vents – possibly enough to scare a passerby on a normal night. Great timing to put up a especially bloody one as he is in town for his show “Dark Doings,” opeing this […]

Openings: LIVESTRONG x Nike Stages Exhibition (NYC) @ Deitch Projects

As anticipated, the highly praised “Stages” exhibition made it’s US debut yesterday in a beautiful pop-up space hosted by Deitch Projects in New York’s Soho district. AM was invited to attend the press preview and to speak with the all-star cast of artists about their works. We […]

Happy Halloween!

Don’t know what to dress up as for Halloween?  Why not take inspiration from your favorite artist and dress up as a piece of art (like the Banksy fans above)?  Or, Dr. Sketchy’s is always a nice place to look for ideas (Ron English costume and Tara McPherson costume, David Stoupakis costume).  Enjoy yourselves tonight and stay safe.
