For this week’s Art Focus, we turn our attention to New York-based painter Brad Kunkle. What is striking about his work is his incorporation of silver and gold leaf into his oil paintings, which imbues them with an added depth and allows for a play with light and angles. After a little hiatus, our Art Focus is back this week and our artist is Stephanie Pierce. She currently lives and teaches in Fayetteville, Arkansas and creates these ethereal oil on linen and canvas paintings that play with light, abstraction, and fragments of color. With imagery based mainly on a room and its contents, the feeling of flux and transitory nature achieved in her work is interesting considering the simple nature of her subjects. Art Focus: Ethan Murrow

Boston-based Ethan Murrow works in large-scale graphite drawings and is the subject of our Art Focus for this week. The full time Graduate and Undergraduate Faculty in Painting at the School of the Museum of Fine Arts in Beantown bases his imagery on collaborative work with his wife, where she films, photographs and directs him in performances. Riusuke Fukahori and his amazing three-dimensional paintings have been selected as our Art Focus this week. With incredible patience and with layer by layer of paint and poured resin, Fukahori builds up these incredible life-like creations of his favorite subject – goldfish. When the 3D pieces are placed in buckets and tubs, the illusion is complete. The Japanese painter just closed an exhibition at ICN Gallery in London and you can check out more photos here. Admirers of gems and photo-realistic painting technique will enjoy our Art Focus this week on Carly Waito. The Toronto-based artist and graduate of the Ontario College of Art and Design chooses specimens of semi-precious gems and minerals, photographs them in macroscopic detail, and then renders them in oil paints with meticulous care.
