Streets: JR @ National Library of France (Paris)

French “photograffeur” JR (interviewed) recently turned the facade of the National Library of France in Paris into his largest photo printer yet as he brought his Inside Out project back home again. Pasted in strips over the course of a week in November, the striking image and clever use of the building further cements himself as one of his country’s foremost street artists. Take a look at more images below… Photo credit: truxi. Discuss JR here.

Basel Week Miami ’13 / Studio Visits: Faile & Bast – “Deluxx Fluxx”

AM recently paid a visit to Faile’s Brooklyn hideout to take a closer look at their collaborative project with Bast – a nostalgic arcade-based exhibition entitled Deluxx Fluxx. Set to open tonight in South Beach (1604 Washington Blvd.), with sponsorship by Perrier, this marks version 3.0 for this mind blowing showcase of old school arcade games, foosball, and now they’ve added specially crafted pinball machines to bring back the sensory addictions of the 70s & 80s. (Check out version 1.0 in London & version 2.0 in NYC) […]

Studio Visits: Tessar Lo

A few weeks ago AM got a chance to visit with artist Tessar Lo at his Toronto studio. He was just coming off of recent group shows More Than Two (Let It Make Itself) at The Power Plant Contemporary Art Gallery in Toronto and Buddy System at the Breeze Block Gallery in Portland. Tessar’s process involves tapping into the unconscious, creating imagery that feels poignant despite its abstraction, using color and shape to convey unspoken meaning but maintaining a haunting familiarity. He challenges the viewer to digest the work without having something […]

Streets: Vhils x Pixel Pancho (Lisbon)

With some recent articles, we have introduced to you several public murals arranged by the Underdogs platform in Lisbon as well as some gallery shows. We now have another street piece to share with you in the same vein – a collaboration between Vhils and Pixel Pancho. The joint wall saw the locally-based Vhils mix his chiseled technique with the Italian Pixel Pancho’s robotic imagery leading an interesting interaction of disparate styles. It’s time for another roundup of street art around the world that we didn’t have a chance to cover in-depth. First up is a mural from Case in Erfurt, Germany for the OQ Paint project. Utilizing the overlapping hand and finger imagery seen in his recent work (ie: New York), the Maclaim member created a special public work that fans in the city can enjoy for years. If you are interested in more in-progress photos, head over here. Other notable work comes from: Rone – […]

Streets: Shepard Fairey & D*Face (Spain)

Two familiar names in street art, Shepard Fairey (featured) and D*Face (interviewed), united their efforts to paint two massive walls on the side of a building in Malaga, Spain recently. The seven story tall murals next to CAC Malaga were painted on an invite from Maus Málaga as well as from the museum and were representative of both the American and UK-based artist’s styles. Take a look at more in-progress and shots from different angles below… Photos via the artists. Discuss Shepard Fairey here. Discuss D*Face here.

Streets: Jasper Wong x Kelly Towles (Washington DC)

Last week, Washington DC added another mural to their public space through the efforts of Jasper Wong and Kelly Towles. Painted on the side of an abandoned CIA building for the Art Yards event, the six-story high piece features a surreal image of a dinosaur and bandit playing cat’s cradle, a child’s string-based game. The resulting wall from Wong, who is well versed in the art of public murals as the founder of POW WOW, and Towles, a local artist who curated this DC event […]
