Streets: Miss Van (Brazil)

Street femme fatale and intrepid traveller Miss Van has been spotted in frolicking in Brazil, in particular getting up in Sao Paulo. While visiting friends like Zezao and Ciro Schu, she took time to paint one of her signature Poupee characters near an abandoned factory – one of her first outdoor pieces for 2013. Another week, another Streets: World Roundup. For this edition, our headlining mural is from the Los Angeles-based Andrew Hem (interviewed). This latest piece located on the rooftops of Koreatown features a break dancing character painted with a background that is meant to blend in with the sky under certain conditions. Over the weekend, AM was invited to a special event presented by New Image Art & Robert Galstian at RETNA’s (featured) studio timed nicely to coincide with the Art Los Angeles Contemporary. Along with a look at his spacious work space and refreshments, guests were also allowed to participate in an auction of available works to benefit Inner-City Arts. Art Focus: Jane Edden

Just like artists we have covered in the past like Polly Morgan and Kate Mccgwire, English artist Jane Edden utilizes birds for her materials and medium of choice in her work. This recent series collectively entitled Ornithomorph (on view at Flowers Gallery through January 26th) consists miniature jackets created beautifully from hundreds of tiny feathers. The small sculptural pieces are Edden’s way of “our attitudes to nature and the intention behind our consumption of natural materials.” Take a look at more examples below… Via Designboom.
