Studio Visits: Emma Tooth

Emma Tooth first caught AM’s eye nearly a couple of years ago with a showing at Bohemia Gallery in York. A simple drive past the gallery, where one of the paintings from her “Consilium Plebis” series was displayed in the window and BOOM, we were hooked. Eager to find out more about this artist and her powerful hyper-real work, we found out that she had a solo show upcoming at the Biscuit Factory in Newcastle, which we duly checked out and were equally impressed by. […]

Streets / Video: Twist, Amaze, Resq, Stefan, Deej, CBT Crew in San Diego

So, that epic wall chock full of handstyles that we posted up last night was actually from San Diego where Barry McGee and the rest of the crew (Amaze, Resq, Stefan, Deej) were in town to prep for the big “Viva La Revolucion” exhibition opening next month at the Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego. If you want to check some of this work out, you’d better hurry as apparently the San Diego residents aren’t as into art as some towns and have been raising […]

Streets: Twist & Amaze

Not sure when or where this went up, but it looks to be a pretty sick “tag-athon” of this particular wall. As you can see, it seems both SF legends Twist (Barry McGee) & Amaze were involved in this piece as reported by Upper Playground. For those who can’t get enough of McGee check out our coverage of his recent museum shows in Oakland and Bolinas. Discuss Barry McGee here.

Streets: Blu in Madrid

After leaving his mark in Lisbon with an epic collaboration with Os Gemeos, Blu moved on to Madrid to work on his next project. This is an abandoned building in “Esta Es Una Plaza” where the Italian street artist threw up his version of the Madrid coat of arms (seen after the jump).

Studio Visits: Jeff Soto – “Life Cycle” @ Jonathan LeVine Gallery

Another monster show this weekend will be Jeff Soto’s (interviewed) first solo show in New York since 2007.  As we promised you several weeks ago, we now have our full studio visit to share with you as we caught him working on a new body of work – “Life Cycle”. With these paintings, Jeff has put together a show that is deeply personal dealing with issues of family, life, and death. We are sure you will be impressed as we were when the show opens […]

Streets: Trustocorp vs. Mr. Brainwash

It looks like Trustocorp (who recently held his first exhibition) takes exception to the fact that Mr. Brainwash had spread his imagery onto the streets of New York. He’s “stamped” MBW pieces with his logo and the words “Locals only, No Fakes, No Phonies”. Although, in general, this is a poor form to go over somebody else’s work on the streets (Exhibit A), we wonder what everyone’s reaction is in the special case of one Mr. Brainwash. More pics after the jump…

Studio Visits: Todd Schorr – “Designed for Extinction” @ Otis College of Art & Design

As we hinted in an earlier teaser post, AM was very happy to have another chance to visit with Todd Schorr (interviewed) ahead of his show at the renowned Otis College of Art and Design this weekend (June 26th). As you can see above, the centerpiece and one of the new paintings for this 10-year retrospective, will be “Atomic Holiday” partly featuring Todd’s take on the four horsemen of the apocalypse (here you can see famine, pestilence, and war). For more detailed pics from this painting, […]

Audrey Kawasaki moves into a new abode and gets right to work. New work from Edwin Ushiro & Andrew Hem. Stella Im Hultberg shares more of her sketchbooks. And releases some new hand-embellished prints. Jen Corace has raised over 10K for the Gulf of Mexico so far. History was made (highest price for an Italian artist and work sold in France) as sculpted stone head by  Modigliani sold for €43,185,000 or $52,405,870 Jeffrey Deitch looks back. Painter Thomas Kinkade arrested in Carmel on suspicion of […]

Streets: Vermin & Jago – Moon Street Mural

We were impressed by this recent collaborative mural on Moon Street in Bristol, put together by Mr Jago and Vermin when we saw these pictures of the wall coming together from Mike Dring of Art-El. The two artists had not met before the planned day of painting, but they seemed to hit things off with this well composed and cohesive piece, which blends their styles with great effect – just check out some of the 3D details they achieved. More flicks and a video after […]

Video / Interviews: Jeff Koons x BMW Art Car

Continuing with our coverage of this cool project, here’s an interview of Jeff Koons discussing his contribution in designing BMW’s M3 GT2 which raced recently in the 24 Hours of Le mans endurance race in France on June 13th. In the video he talks about his inspiration for the car, his peers and his family with Blast. Thanks to Hypebeast for the heads up. Discuss Jeff Koons here.
