Streets: JR (Los Angeles) Part II

As we reported earlier, French street activist and photographer JR is continuing his assault on the walls of LA since starting with a mural in Venice last week.  LA weekly is following his progress in bringing his “The Wrinkles of the City” to Socal on their website (map) and this is the latest piece at Barracuda in Melrose. This newest project will lead in nicely to the TED Prize award show on March 2 (live streaming) where he will reveal his “wish.” Discuss JR here.

Phlegm x Sukhoi Su-17

Looks like Retna’s not the only one into painting aircraft. Phlegm recently enhanced this old Soviet fighter jet, a Sukhoi Su-17 with some of his signature imagery.  If you are in the UK, you’ll be able to see more of his work when he tagteams with ROA on the BLACK/LIGHT show in about a week. Closer looks at the jet after the jump…

Streets: ROA (Mexico)

One of the hardest working street artists in the game, ROA recently made a special trip to Mexico where he took time to throw up a bunch of murals (you can see more on Unurth). Not only did he reprise his signature “stacked pile” of animals, but he also chose creatures we have never seen him use before. Also, for those lucky enough to be in the UK, he has already gotten up in East London as well as created a monster installation at Black […]

Streets: JR (Venice, CA)

It looks like street photographer JR is back in Southern California after Eurotrash took over the Lazarides pop-up gallery last July. If you remember, as an adjunct for that show, he worked on a sweet collaboration with Vhils in downtown LA.  This time, the French street activist will be bringing his “The Wrinkles of the City” project over to the States after it’s original start in Shanghai.  Here is a piece he put up in Venice, the first in a series of twenty large-scale photos […]

Streets: Kid Acne – ‘Art Fags’ & Ema – ‘Dropmen’ (Paris)

One of our favourite things we’ve seen on the streets over the last few months have been Kid Acne’s Art Fags. Acne has frequently brightened the day with his playful creations, but this huge street art in-joke makes us smile everytime we come across one. KA has been on a pasting spree on the streets of Paris, along with partner in crime Ema – who has getting busy dropping her Dropmen alongside the looseys. Perhaps we will see some more action from Kid Acne in […]

Streets: Banksy (Los Angeles) Part II

As we suspected, Banksy was not done with his initial “Crayon Shooter” stencil in West LA. Looks like another piece has been discovered showing he’s a fan of Charlie Brown on the side of an abandoned fire-damaged building.  We wonder how many he has planned as we lead up to the Oscars.  Take a look at another video from Foreman of the initial piece after the jump…

Streets: Banksy (Los Angeles)

As our readers must know by now, Banksy’s film “Exit Through The Gift Shop” has been nominated for an Oscar.  Although it doesn’t appear that he will be allowed to personally accept the award if he wins, it looks like he made the trip out to Los Angeles just the same.  Take a look at this new piece that has popped up reportedly attributed to the elusive street artist.  Perhaps the start of his Oscar campaign with more to come? Photos via Capturing Banksy. Discuss […]

Streets: Mentalgassi (Spain)

Unurth just tipped us off to new work from Mentalgassi on the in Spain as part of this year’s Getxo Photo festival. The German street art collective is known for creatively wheatpasting photos utilizing local urban objects to their advantage.  Take a look at more photos after the jump…

Streets: Happy Valentine’s Day

Those looking for a little love on Valentine’s Day need look no further than the streets. We’ve gathered some images from the last year from C215, Ellis G., Sam3, Escif and Faile that may spark some romance for you. Although some of the pieces may not be exactly what you are looking for. Photos after the jump…

Streets: Armsrock (Vienna)

Continuing his exploration of projection art (see his show and participation in the Lightsound Project in Copenhagen), Armsrock (interviewed) recently visited Vienna and illuminated selected walls and monuments with some of his drawings. The Danish artist has been in the Austrian capital immersed in the quartier21 artist-in-residence program and appears to be keeping busy before heading back home for various other projects and shows scheduled for the rest of the year. More photos after the jump…
