Showing adjacent to the SCOPE, the Art Asia opened its doors to fair-goers exposing the Art Basel crowd to the special flavor of their region’s art. Basel Week Miami ’09 – Art Basel First Look

Earlier today, Art Basel Miami held it’s media preview and AM was on hand enjoy the biggest art show in North America. Preview: Basel Week Miami ’09 – Scott Musgrove with Jonathan Levine @ SCOPE

A project by Scott Musgrove that we first told you about here has finally come to fruition – just in time for Art Basel Week. He will be unveiling one of the massive bronze sculptures he has been working on entitled “The Great Lesser PlantSampler” (measuring 66 x 60 inches) at the SCOPE sculpture garden and for a nominal fee of $38K, you can bring one of these babies home with you from Miami. Update: Allison Sommers

Allison Sommers (interviewed) recently completed one of her delightful little sculptures of the mischievous creatures from her paintings – “Little Diedrich.” She writes – “A meat cake, a sheet cake filled with hammy treats cake… so could be heard the siren-song of little Diedrich, waiting in the woods for an unsuspecting traveler to sample his gaily-frosted, heavenly-delicious confectionaries…” Look for more sculptures and paintings in her next solo show at Thinkspace in May of 2010. If you are near Pasadena tonight, you might want to stop by the Switcheroo x Flopdoodle Holiday Party put on by Tim Biskup, Amanda Visell, and Michelle Valigura. Last night, AM attended the VIP opening of Eric Haze’s latest solo “New Abstracts and Icons” in Manhattan’s Level 2 Gallery.
