Openings: Ludo – “Destructionis Hostis Vespa” @ White Walls

Last weekend, White Walls in San Francisco hosted the opening for Ludo’s (interviewed) new solo show. Entitled Destructionis Hostis Vespa, the exhibition is named for a creature from the Parisian street artist’s Nature’s Revenge series or works – a cross between a combat airplane and a wasp. Displayed in sculptural form as well as with paintings from multiple angles, blue prints if you will, the entire show was able to present a cohesive feel to it and also gave striking examples of Ludo’s work. Nuart ’13: Part VI – Group Exhibition

Along with the plethora of murals painted for this year’s Nuart Festival (see previous years), the artists involved also put together a group exhibition indoors as well. David Choe, C215, Martin Whatson, Hush, Ernest Zacharevic, Dal East, Faith47, Martha Cooper, Aiko and others all created works in their own recognizable style. Openings: “The Baxter Collection” @ Roq La Rue

Roq La Rue changed it up for this month’s opening. The works on display are from the personal collection of the Baxter family, who are selling some of their collection to move overseas. The pieces in question were collected over the past decade and represent a who’s who of the pop surrealism scene including Mark Ryden, Marion Peck, Audrey Kawasaki, Camile Rose Garcia, Lori Earley, Nicoletta Ceccoli, Liz McGrath, Glenn Barr, Donald Roller Wilson, Kukula, Ana Bagayan, Fuco Ueda, Joe Sorren, Brian Despain, and Femke Hiemstra. Three years after his first Italian solo show at MAN, the Art Museum in Nuoro (Sardinia), and six months since his last European solo show at Tim Van Laere Gallery in Antwerpen, Belgium, Ed Templeton is back in Europe, opening a solo show at Jerome Zodo Contemporary in Milan, Italy. As previously announced, Tauba Auerbach recently opened a solo show at STANDARD (OSLO). Showing a whole new body of work that includes installation works, sculptural pieces, and canvases, the American artist worked with a wide range of materials from granite, sand, glass, resin, opal, to plywood and woven fabric. Previews: Isaac Cordal – “Cement Eclipses” @ Anno Domini

On this Friday (September 6th), Spanish artist Isaac Cordal will be bringing his Cement Eclipses stateside for a showing at Anno Domini in San Jose, California. His street interventions consisting of sculptures steeped with political and social implications have been hitting countries around the world for several years now. American artist Tauba Auerbach is opening a solo show on Friday, August 30 at STANDARD (OSLO), Norway. After recently exhibiting in Brussel, Malmö, and Bergen, the artist is showing in Europe again. A pretty special show is opening up on September 6th at the Ronchini Gallery in London entitled Dream No Small Dreams. Featuring the work of three artists, Patrick Jacobs (seen above), Thomas Doyle, and Adrien Broom, whose specialties are in the small details of the miniature world, the show promises to be something that must be seen in person if you are in the area.
