Openings: Beyond Eden 2013

Last weekend, the fourth Beyond Eden art fair opened its doors at the Los Angeles Municipal Art Gallery at Barnsdall Park. Great crowds of art lovers showed up to support the various galleries (Thinkspace, C.A.V.E Gallery, Copro Gallery, and Spoke Art) and the artists represented. Some highlights were as special presentation recognizing Greg Escalante’s contributions to the LA art scene, the first showing of Chet Zar’s Ego Death project, as well as the Bird’s Eye View and Wild At Heart II group exhibitions. Frieze Art Fair ’13 : Highlights (London) – Part 1

Frieze Art Fair returns to London from 17 to 20 October 2013 showcasing 152 galleries from around the world. Highlights this year include the Gagosian Gallery, displaying five large scale works by pop artist Jeff Koons, from his stainless steel inflatable sculptures series to his Sacred Heart sculpture. At the Stephen Friedman Gallery booth, viewers can enjoy the ultimate rebirthing experience by interacting with a giant sculptural self portrait of American artist Jennifer Rubell by climbing into a cavity made in her pregnant stomach. Jeff Koons x Dom Pérignon Sculpture Package (London)

Following the recent announcement for the release of the Jeff Koons x Dom Pérignon Sculpture Package (covered here), we were invited to the launch party during Frieze art week in London. For those who can’t afford the £15,500 which includes a mini-Balloon Venus along with the Rosé champagne inside, you can opt for the special Koons boxes of Dom Pérignon Blanc de Blancs (£130) and Rose (£315) sold at a pop-up at Claridge’s. Openings: Dmitry Shorin – “Flight” @ Erarta Galleries (London)

Russian artist Dmitry Shorin is currently exhibiting at Erarta Galleries in London until the 16th of November. The body of work titled Flight features paintings that work on his now familiar aviation theme. Included in the showing is a sculpture from his I Believe in Angels series. Openings: John Casey – “Little Excorcisms” @ Breeze Block Gallery

Earlier this month, The Breeze Block Gallery in Portland presented all new works from John Casey (along with Mike Egan’s solo ) entitled Little Excorcisms. For those familiar with the Oakland-based artist’s work, you will recognize his continued exploration of “fictitious human morphology” with his strange creations that seem to take a fantastical view of different body parts. The exhibition includes his imaginative ink drawings and grotesque sculptures, of which you can see more of below… Discuss John Casey here.

New York based artist and archaeologist of the future, Daniel Arsham, opened his first solo show in London at Pippy Houldsworth Gallery on October 14th. This past weekend the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts (PAFA) opened its doors to unveil the much anticipated exhibition by KAWS. The show featured 70 works (old & new) at the historic institution and included both paintings and sculptures that spans some major milestones of the artist’s storied career to date. The inaugural edition of STRARTA fair was opened this weekend at Saatchi Gallery, at the very beginning of London art week.
