Upcoming: “Black Moon” @ Model Citizen Studios

Open for two days only starting tonight, Black Moon is a group exhibition featuring four California-based artists Jessicka Addams, Camille Rose Garcia (seen above), Elizabeth McGrath, and Marion Peck. Curated by Alix Sloan, the show will feature Addams’ octopi-related imagery, CRG’s recent obsession with bats, McGrath’s three-dimensional art, and Peck’s clown portraits. Michael Johansson – “Shades and Variables” @ Galleri Andersson/Sandström (Stockholm)

A couple month ago, the Stockholm location of Galleri Andersson/Sandström hosted new work from Swedish artist Michael Johansson (featured). Continuing his recent spate of showings in Europe, Shades and Variables featured works that he has become known form. Color coded Tetris-like cubes constructed perfectly from everyday items, an installation wall of tightly fitted components, and his play on toy kits filled the space. Over the weekend, the Nerman Museum of Contemporary Art in Kansas City opened up a new show from KAWS entitled UPS AND DOWNS. The NY-based artist has been on a roll recently (also see PAFA, BAM, MTV, Basel, Tokyo) and it looks like he still has a couple more high profile shows scheduled before the end of the year. Frieze Art Fair ’13 : Highlights (London) – Part 2

Frieze London is one of the world’s leading art fairs and this year it took place from the 17th – 20th of October in Regent’s Park. Tag and Juice Gallery in Sao Paulo, Brazil, recently opened Preto e Branco (Black and White), a show by 2501 (Jacopo Ceccarelli) and Ozmo (Gionata Gesi) from Italy. Previews: Do Ho Suh @ Lehmann Maupin (Hong Kong)

On November 14th, Lehmann Maupin’s Hong Kong location will be opening a new show featuring the works of Do Ho Suh. For his first solo in the SAR, the Korean artist will be continuing his Specimen series of works where he recreates ethereal reproductions of various appliances from his New York apartment. Previews: Brendan Monroe – “Turning” @ Galerie LJ

Coinciding this week with the start of the FIAC art fair in Paris, Galerie LJ will opening Brendan Monroe’s (interviewed) latest solo show tomorrow (October 22). Entitled Turning, the exhibition will include a series of new paintings on paper and wood sculptures will continue the move towards abstraction in his recent work with imagery exploring his fascination with nature and its organic intricacies.
