Basel Week Miami ’12: The Miami Project – Highlights

AM found time to visit another fair in Midtown Miami, the inaugural Miami Project earlier this week. Unlike most new fairs, we were impressed by their solid lineup of respected galleries and great facilities. This is perhaps this is due to the experience of the fair’s organizers, artMRKT Productions, who have already held fairs Houston, San Francisco, and the Hamptons. Check out the selection of works below and the a piece from Mel Bochner above… Discuss Basel Week Miami here.

Basel Week Miami ’12: Art Asia – Highlights

An art fair we always check out while we are in town for Basel Week Miami is the sister fair of SCOPE – Art Asia. While there perusing gems from the Far East, we are sure to come upon new names to follow as well as catch up with more familiar artists. This year, the sculptures of Qin Weihong (above) caught our eye as well as much of the other talent on display. Take a look at all the photos below… Discuss Basel Week Miami here.

Basel Week Miami ’12: SCOPE – Highlights

This morning, we stopped by to check out one of the other satellite fairs in Miami – SCOPE. The large complex featured many of the galleries and artists that we are familiar with as well as some new discoveries. Also attached to the fair was its usual partner – Art Asia which we will cover in a followup article.  For now, check out all the images including a stunning portrait from Sas Christian (ab0ve). Upcoming: Jeff Koons @ Gagosian Gallery (Beverly Hills)

Returning to the Gagosian space in Beverly Hills where he last exhibited in 2009 (covered), Jeff Koons will be opening a new exhibition there on December 7th. Although he is know mostly for his larger than life sculptures, the last time he showed at the gallery, he brought with him bold new paintings. This time around may see him return to more three-dimensional works as a teaser image of his Coloring Book (1997–2005) sculpture has been posted up. Photo credit: Kenzo* Discuss Jeff Koons here.

Openings: “Tonight We Won’t Be Bored” – 10 Years Of V1 Gallery

With all the great art that is scattered all over the world, it’s not often that you can see works from prominent artists in your home town – and even less likely you see them side by side. That is exactly the scenario we have in Copenhagen at the V1 Gallery as they celebrate their 10 year anniversary with a massive group show entitled Tonight We Won’t Be Bored. Take for example the wall above that has pieces from Todd James, Futura, DearRainDrop, and Kenny Scharf that […]

Showing: Vhils – “Devoid” @ Lazarides (Rathbone Place)

Vhils has certainly come along way since his days with a chipping hammer next to a Banksy in the Cans Festival of 2008. This is a perfect example of an artist being catapulted onto the main stage for all the right reasons. In recent years, he has had solo shows around the globe including – China, Paris, Brazil, and most recently back in his home away from home at Lazarides in London. There is one thing we can always count on from this young artist, […]

Openings: Cyrcle. – “Organized Chaos!” (Los Angeles)

Last night, AM stopped by the private opening of Cyrcle.’s new solo show titled Organized Chaos! Taking place in Los Angeles, this new exhibition by the two-man collective focuses on the central idea of the cube and the way in which bees and flowers relate to society as a whole. It’s interesting to point out that unlike most exhibitions in which art is supposed to hang on a wall, this show actually invites the viewer to interact with the artwork itself. Various pieces are made up of […]

For those interested in learning more about Yoskay and his work, head over to Société Perrier to read the interview they conducted as well as enter a contest […]

Basel Week Miami ’12 / Preview: Jen Stark @ The Miami Project / Cooper Cole

Another thing to add to the list to visit next week during Basel Week Miami is the Cooper Cole booth at The Miami Project (which appears to be a new fair this year). Jen Stark, who showed with the Toronto gallery (covered) last year (as well as in Los Angeles recently), will be presenting two new holographic pedestals, a variation on her cut paper sculptures. It will be interesting to see these in person… Discuss Basel Week Miami here. Discuss Jen Stark here.
