Openings: “La Luz de Jesus 25” Part II

For those who liked the lineup of the first part of La Luz de Jesus’ 25th duo of anniversary show, you will enjoy photos of round two. As we indicated in our preview of the work for the exhibition, the artists invited to celebrate Billy Shire’s illustrious curatorial career are the cream of the crop including Al Farrow with his amazing mosque created with the help of bullets and gun parts. Openings: Amy Ross – “Lone Wolf” @ Kopeiken Gallery

Last weekend, AM stopped by Kopeiken Gallery to view Amy Ross’ newest show, Lone Wolf. As we examined the new body of work, it was evident that she has continued to expand on the show last year at the in Boston where she combined wolf and human forms expresses her anti-war sentiments in a personal set of watercolors. Openings: Aaron De La Cruz – “Long Walk Home” @ Loft In Space

We first met Bay Area graffiti artist, designer, and illustrator Aaron De La Cruz at POW WOW earlier this year where he painted wall murals utilizing his minimalistic and signature patterns. Long Walk Home sees him return to the scene of the crime, Loft in Space, with more of his work, this time in the form of a solo exhibition. Openings: Supakitch – “Clé De Soul” @ Galerie LJ

Brooklyn-based French artist Supakitch recently returned to his home country to open his new show at Paris’ Galerie LJ. The exhibition entitled Clé De Soul is Supa’s first with the gallery, and includes a beautiful collection of his colorful paintings, works on paper and mixed-media pieces. Openings: Kenichi Yokono – “Rise of the Underground” @ Mark Moore

Last weekend, alongside Jeremy Fish, the Mark Moore Gallery also featured the work of Kenichi Yokono. The last time we had an opportunity to take in a large body of work from the Japanese artist, it was 2009 and we were at Art Basel Miami week. Rise of the Underground featured more of his signature carved woodblocks and it was a joy to examine his intricate details close up. Over the weekend, AM stopped by Mark Moore Gallery in Los Angeles to take a look at Jeremy Fish (featured) part in Rise of the Underground. Exhibiting alongside Kenichi Yokono, the standout pieces from the bearded one were his exquisite and imaginative woodcuts, an extension of the work we saw in NY in July. Openings: Chuck Close @ Blum & Poe

One of the most celebrated and revered American artists working today, Chuck Close recently unveiled an exhibition of brand new paintings, prints, and tapestries at Culver City’s Blum and Poe.  This is Close’s first solo show with the blue chip gallery and according to them, it “represents the most significant body of work assembled in Los Angeles in sixteen years.” The spectacular exhibition, which occupies the gallery’s entire first floor, provides ample evidence of the artist’s masterful skills as a painter, photographer, and printmaker and […]

Openings: Tessar Lo – “The Dying Wishes,” @ Jaski Gallery

Last weekend, the Jaski Gallery provided the walls for Tessar Lo as he presented a whole new collection of a paintings for fans in Amsterdam. Entitled The Dying Wishes, the new work built on an abstracted style that the Toronto-based artist has been developing for a while now. The continued refinement and practice certainly seems to have paid off as the resulting pieces on display were rich in palette, balanced in composition, and visually lush. Openings: TIN – “Internal Clock” @ Last Rites

Earlier this month, alongside Laurie Lipton, another solo entitled Internal Clock was put on display from painter Tin (interviewed) This second showing with the New York gallery featured his world of human and animal subjects whose bodies have been intermingled with machinery creating bionic hybrids, although it looks as though half of the paintings don’t touch on this theme. While maintaining the sensual pin-up influence from his first career as a pinup artist, Tin continues to further explore his imagination with these newest pastel renderings. […]
