Openings: Ron English – “Nimbus Vapor” @ Opera Gallery

Ron English has been a busy man since his show at Elm’s Lester (studio visit and opening). Last month, he “tagged” the skyline of NYC with clouds (here) in preparation for his curated show “Nimbus Vapor” at Opera Gallery (previewed). Last week AM attended the opening of Ron’s curated take on the most important street artists of our time consisting of a hall of fame lineup consisting of names such as Keith Haring, Jean-Michel Basquiat, Banksy, Blek Le Rat, Daze, Crash, Shepard Fairey (featured), Faile, Futura, Logan […]

Openings / Giveaway: Adam Neate – “A New Understanding” @ Elms Lesters

Adam Neate’s much anticipated solo show “A New Understanding” opened last night at Elms Lesters Painting Rooms and AM went along to see just where Adam’s new direction had taken him. After revealing to us in our recent interview that he’d been through some troubled times during the creation of this work, we were pleased to see him in good spirits happily chatting to fans and collectors whilst signing an almost endless stream of books and posters. His classic and recognizable self portrait profile made […]

Openings: “Pop Life” @ Tate Modern

Last week, Tate Modern opened the doors to a highly anticipated group show based on Andy Warhol’s famous quote: good business is the best art. An ensemble made up of the top names in the contemporary art scene such as Tracey Emin, Keith Haring, Damien Hirst, Martin Kippenberger, Jeff Koons, Takashi Murakami, Gavin Turk, Richard Prince, and Cosey Fanni Tutti are included in this “Pop Life” exhibition (teased) and many were on hand for the opening reception. Check out all the pics after the jump…

Openings: Scott Campbell – “Always Almost There” @ Lazarides

Tattoo and now contemporary artist, Scott Campbell, opened his show at the Shop at Lazarides recently. “Always Almost There” once again highlights the laser etched technique that Campbell is famous for using stacks of dollar bills. His three dimensional works are wonderfully textured and complex, maybe because they are cut layer by later and then glued together. This is his first major exhibition in Europe and his debut show in London. Check out more images after the jump…

Baby Tattooville ’09: Curious Art Sale

During each annual Baby Tattooville, artists produce exclusive artwork for an all-one-print that includes each and every piece.  The original artwork that is used for that print is available first to attendees of the event, then if any pieces are still available, the public will have a chance to buy.  The order in which those lucky BT-goers receive the opportunity to purchase is based on their ticket number (those who were the first to register get lower numbers).  It is a wonderful opportunity to skip […]

Teaser: C215 & Logan Hicks – “Parallel Universe” @ Show & Tell Gallery

Just coming off the opening of his solo show in Paris, C215 is already getting ready to conquer another country. This time, he is collaborating with another stencil master, Logan Hicks (interviewed), for a show in Canada at Show & Tell Gallery.  Opening November 6th, “Parallel Universe” will no doubt showcase the strengths of both artists, their complex stencils. A closer look after the jump.

Baby Tattooville ’09: Dr. Sketchy’s @ Riverside Art Museum

One of the cornerstones of last year’s  Baby Tattooville was the fabulous “Life Drawing” party (here), where a model is featured in varying poses for participants to sketch alongside their favorite BT artists. Think playing catch with your favorite quarterback or jamming with your favorite band. Well this year, BT decided to shake things up a bit and invite Molly Crabapple’s Dr. Sketchy’s to host the event and to up the ante by bringing a professional model to be the muse.  The drawing session was held at […]

Openings: Miss Van – “Love Stain” @ StolenSpace

Last week, Miss Van brought her signature “poupes” for a well-received visit to the StolenSpace gallery in London. “Love Stain” (teased) was definitely a special show as it was a retrospective (with new works as well) that showcased the many stages and facets of her work. You can imagine the significance and breadth of this exhibition as the French but now Barcelona-based artist has been painting in the streets for almost 20 years. More images after the jump…

Baby Tattooville ‘09: “Son Of Baby Tattooville” Museum Reception

After a successful exhibition last year (“Beyond Baby Tattooville”), the Riverside Art Museum brings back Baby Tattooville with this year’s roster of artists, with a show called “Son of Baby Tattooville”.  It was a unique museum group show in that almost all the artists who had works in the show made it in person to the opening.  Museum-goers were greeted with highly-representational pieces by each artists, such as Audrey Kawasaki‘s classic Two Sisters. More images after the jump…

Baby Tattooville ’09: Opening Reception

Following last night’s late sketch, swap and sketch again session, AM and the participating artists reconvened for the official commencement of Baby Tattooville 2009.  Much like last year’s Shag badge (covered), this years attendees were greeted with a special name tag/art print by none other Greg “Craola” Simkins.  In addition to this signed and numbered mini print, Baby Tattooville debuted this year’s “X in one” print, a complimentary, limited edition giclee featuring the art of all participating BT artists.  Check out the goody, print and […]
