Last week, the Merry Karnowsky Gallery also presented work from Vonn Sumner, who was showing alongside Nicola Verlato (covered). Openings: Nicole Naone – “Mass” @ Human Imagination

Our friend and Hawaiian native Nicole Naone recently made her debut solo at Honolulu’s Human Imagination. Entitled Mass, the exhibition gives us a look at the classic female form through subtle compositions which Nicole hand molded in foam and plaster. Diverse in her mediums, we also caught sight of smooth illustrations and sculptures cast in bronze. A very sweet debut showcasing what the full time artist & part time model has achieved since we last time we saw her at this year’s POW WOW.

Openings: Crazy 4 Cult – Gallery 1988 (NYC)

Last week, AM took a walk down memory lane as the annual Crazy 4 Cult opened its doors to the legions of fans of cult movies and art, especially those who wanted one of the prints from Olly Moss (seen above) based off the film Léon: The Professional. Hosted as usual by Gallery 1988, this year’s showing (the sixth one) was its first time in New York and was as popular as always. Check out our photo set below… Discuss this show here.

Over the weekend, the Merry Karnowsky Gallery in Los Angeles welcomed local artist Nicola Verlato and his new paintings into their showspace with an opening reception. The new works collectively entitled Zero Gravity are beautiful executed with his characters and objects suspended in midair as if frozen in time. We already caught a glimpse of the new body of work during a studio visit last week, but nothing beats seeing the paintings in situ. Last week, Lexus created a unique photography exhibition in San Francisco to highlight the world premiere of their latest LS model line. Curated by creatives Simon Doonan and Jonathan Adler, this showcase explored the age-old question of what makes something attractive and surveyed the concept through lenses from all around the world. Last Thursday, Spoke Art opened its first annual Summer Group Show featuring a selection of up & coming local and international talent. For many of the artists, this show marks one of their first group shows with some looking forward to their debut solo shows in the near future. San Francisco’s Spoke Art Gallery recently teamed with East Bay Express, fiftyseven-thirtythree and the city of Oakland to set up an exhibition that opened in conjunction with the 12th Annual Art and Soul Festival. Last month at Lebasse Projects, AM had the chance to visit A Life to Leave, a new solo from Eric Fortune (interviewed). Ever since we first started covering the Ohio-based painter’s work, we have known about his time-consuming and very detailed style but the new pieces really seem like he has accentuated his process (if that is possible).
