The Miami Project successfully launched its second rendition during Basel week with a well-curated selection of U.S. galleries, including such notable names as Yossi Milo, Joshua Liner, Mark Moore, Richard Heller and David B. Smith. Located in the Wynwood Arts District, the young art fair focused on primary representation of emerging and mid-career artists, which was a nice counterpoint to its much larger neighbor, Art Miami. Another interesting exhibition that occured during Art Basel Week was entitled Most Oddinism located at The Rotunda, just a block from a number of fairs such as Miami Projects, Art Miami & Context in Miami’s Downtown district. This group show featured the works by many familiar artists you’ve seen here at AM including Aaron De La Cruz, Christopher Derek Bruno, Ben Eine, Kenji Hirata Anthony Lister, Otto Zitko, Patrick Martinez (seen above), ESPO and Roid. Aside from the major fairs operating during Art Basel Week in Miami, there are countless art shows, launches and parties occurring during this tightly packed period. A couple of days ago, the Le-Fix Gallery in Copenhagen opened a showing featuring New Drawings and Other Works from MODE 2 (interviewed). One of the legends of the European graffiti scene, the provocative painter put his erotic and sensual imagery on display for his Danish fans. Camille Rose Garcia (interviewed) recently released a new limited edition through Roq La Rue to partially benefit Bat Conservation International. Fitting in perfectly with her recent imagery featuring the winged creature, I Will Be Here When You Fall will be produced in a run of 100, be sized at 9″ x 12″, and cost $250 with $130 of each print going to the conservation efforts. We made sure to stop by the Miami Museum of Contemporary Art while in town for Art Basel Week to take in an impressive collection of works from Tracey Emin. Entitled Angel Without You, the exhibition includes the Why I Never Became a Dancer video purchased in 1998 by the MOCA, the first American museum to acquire work from the UK-based artist.
