Showing: Jeff Depner – ‘Variations: Black Napkins’ @ Nancy Margolis Gallery

Vancouver-based artist Jeff Depner opened his debut New York solo exhibition last week at Nancy Margolis Gallery. Variations: Black Napkins showcases Depner’s intense application process where he places multiple layers of paint amidst an equal amount of reductive processes to build up his compositions. His hard edged forms have an organic feel amongst the highly stylized architectural notions he presents. Geometric configurations wrestle with natural elements in his paintings, where colour theory underpins his architectonic aesthetic. The work itself is presented with a variety of paint types on canvas, using the […]

Streets: Banksy – “Better Out Than In” (New York) – Final Days

Since we last mentioned Banksy’s ongoing art residency in the Big Apple, he’s since created a piece near Yankee Stadium (seen below) and painted over an existing piece in a thrift shop for charity (also seen below). And now, earlier today, he brought the historic Better Out Than In to a close with his take (seen above) on the bubble tags made famous by vandals in New York. The inflatable throw-up was seen on the Long Island Expressway near Queens. Discuss Banksy here.

Previews: Marco Mazzoni – “Naturama” @ Roq La Rue

On November 7th, Marco Mazzoni is presenting his newest body of work alongside Lindsey Carr at the Roq La Rue gallery in Seattle. The works from the Naturama show are focused on the rituals of struggle between animals in the wild, and the impossibility of harmony in nature. Known for his surreal images, mostly showing parts of wildlife in strange interactions or even symbiosis, the Italian artist has prepared another series of such drawings and paintings for this show. While looking beautiful and calming, these works actually show those harsh moments in which nature […]

Take a look at more photos below… Photo credit: Henrik Haven. Discuss Michael Johansson here.

Previews / Videos: Michael Peck – “Love & Fear” @ Metro Gallery

On November 17th, the Metro Gallery in Melbourne will be hosting a new show from Michael Peck entitled Love & Fear. The fresh batch of paintings were developed during a three-month residency at Birrarung House where he was inspired by the desolate surroundings. As in past works, Peck re-imagines children in the role of adults – this time as hunters, trappers, and outdoorsman. Seen within the various associated paraphenalia like guns, ropes, firewood, bows, and arrows are some symbols of death. Take a look at more […]
