Showing: Kelsey Brookes – “Fibonacci, Waveforms, and Capsid Symmetries” @ Quint Gallery

On view through November 10th at Quint Gallery in La Jolla, Kelsey Brookes’  new show sees him take his work in a more dimensional direction. Fibonacci, Waveforms, and Capsid Symmetries continues the locally-based artist’s longstanding practice of looking to nature and science for inspiration. The painted freestanding and wall sculptures deal with viruses and the Fibonacci sequence, and feature Brookes’ signature psychedelic and colorful patterns. Showing: Paco Pomet – “Melancholia” @ Richard Heller Gallery

Showing though this weekend at Richard Heller Gallery in Los Angeles, Paco Pomet’s solo entitled  Melancholia explores different states of light and their affect on the human psyche. Taking inspiration from vintage photos as a starting point, the Spanish artist has added his own surreal twist like what looks to be slow burning  lava, strange auras, or the sun and the moon, changing the atmosphere of the scene completely. Material Memory, a solo show from Jonathan Chapline opened last week at The Hole in New York City. Set against an eye-catching floor-to-ceiling gridded out gallery space, the Brooklyn-based artist’s digital aesthetics are perfectly accentuated by the Tron-like backdrop. Streets: Telmo Miel – “Prepared” (Italy)

Last month, Telmo Miel painted a mural entitled Prepared for the FestiWall public art festival in Italy. The touching image from the Dutch street artists features a woman putting a helmet on her armored son, symbolizing a mother’s love and the importance of family. Using their impressive spray paint skills, the duo from the Netherlands once again demonstrated their special blend of realism and abstraction with this multi-story wall in Ragusa. Releases: Shok-1 x Bally Collection

With the help of tastemaker Swizz Beatz, Bally recently launched a new capsule collection with artwork from Shok-1. Known for his unique x-ray aerosol technique, the British artist recently traveled to Japan and Hong Kong (seen above) to promote the release of a selection of sweatshirts, joggers, totes, fanny packs, sneakers, and hats for both men and women.
