Good news for street art fans out there. One of our favorite events (see coverage for 2011, 2010, and 2009), FAME Festival, is happening again this year and the list again looks very interesting. Included currently are Ericailcane, Boris Hoppek, Conor Harrington, 108, Lucy McLauchlan, Moneyless, Nug, Giorgio di Palma, Akay, Brad Downey, Cyop & Kaf, Vhils, Paper Resistance, Dem, JR, and Momo. This will be a five year anniversary celebration so expect surprises like more music to be involved this year in the programming. […]

Teaser: “The Vertical Gallery” @ The Standard (DTLA)

This Thursday, May 31st, The Standard Hotel in Downtown LA will be unveiling The Vertical Gallery, a reference to their stairwell which has acted as canvas for a number of select artists. Along with AIKO (seen above), others who have painted the walls include Deedee Cheriel, Anthony Lister, Juan Mendez, Eric Garcia, Skypage, Sage Vaughn, Luis Farfan, Curtis Kulig, and Skullphone. On Thursday, Evan Hecox made his return to Joshua Liner Gallery for his second solo exhibition. Entitled Dark Island, Hecox focuses his new body of work on New York and its renowned five boroughs. One of our favourite UK exhibitions from 2011 was Kid Acne’s Kill Your Darlings retrospective at Sheffield Museum’s Millennium Gallery, where the artist first presented his Stabby Women film. The film had us hooked, and the B&W imagery captivated audiences in the gallery as his stabby women were brought to life with equal measures of heroism and vengeance. Opening next week (May 31st) at Alice Gallery will be Paul Wackers’ new solo Wait and Watch Awhile Go By. Looking to build on his successful showing last year at Morgan Lehman (covered), the New York-based artist will be presenting his special form of still-life painting to his fans in Brussels. If you remember, we previewed the Ron Mueck exhibition at Hauser & Wirth, London (Saville Row, South Gallery) last month.
