There is no rest for the weary as New York based artist Tomokazu Matsuyama (interviewed) prepares to open a new exhibition in San Francisco at Frey Norris Contemporary. Following a stunning solo showcase at Katzen Arts Center of the American University Museum in Washington DC, Matsu travels to the west coast to share his beautiful inspirations. Openings: Urban Legends @ L.A. Mart Design Center

Last weekend at the L.A. Mart Design Center, the Urban Legends auction and exhibition opened their doors to the public. With a series of largescale pieces, murals, photographs, and installations, artists around the world like Chor Boogie, Kofie, Mear One, Shark Toof, Cern, Estria, Martha Cooper, Sand One, Herakut, SANER, Estevan Oriol, Eriberto Oriol, Chaz Bojorquez, RETNA, Andrew Hem, and more were invited to put their work on display. Streets: ROA, Hyuro, Mentalgassi, Moneyless – Katowice Street Art Festival (Poland)

As the work continues to go up in Katowice, Poland for a local street art festival, more photos are continuing to hit the interwebs. Besides photos from Olek, Ludo, Mark Jenkins, and Escif, other muralists have hit the streets with their distinctive work including ROA, Hyuro, Mentalgassi, Moneyless.

Releases: Josh Keyes x Tiny Showcase – “The Collector” Print

It looks like Tiny Showcase has another quality release on their hands. The Collector from Josh Keyes (interviewed) will be available for purchase from now until May 8th with some of the proceeds to benefit International Rhino Foundation. Preview: Collection Selim Varol @ me Collectors Room Berlin

Opening on May 26 (and running until Sept 16) at me Collectors Room Berlin is an exhibition featuring the collection of Selim Varol, who is known for being a part of the Toy Giants project, Toykio Cafe and Gallery, and Gallery Springmann.Varol. Teaser: 2012 White Columns Benefit Exhibition + Auction

Currently on auction at White Columns are works from over 80 artists to benefit the not-for-profit gallery near the border of West Village and the Meat Packing District in New York. Openings: Stanley Donwood – “Lost Angeles” @ Subliminal Projects

Last week, Subliminal Projects was fortunate enough to host an exhibition by British artist Stanley Donwood. Known as the key force in shaping Radiohead’s album covers for more than a decade, Donwood brought a series of works depicting the city of Los Angeles in a world of chaos and cataclysm for this showing. Openings: Pedro Matos – “Heritage” @ Ivory & Black

Last weekend, the Ivory & Black showspace in London hosted the opening for Pedro Matos’ new body of work entitled Heritage. With a series of large paintings (including tondos) and a cluster of smaller pieces, the focus of the Portuguese artist was on his personal and cultural heritage. On May 19th, the Jonathan LeVine Gallery will be hosting a new body of work from Kevin Cyr (interviewed). As the title of the showing In Praise of Rust suggests, the NY-based painter has a love for deterioration and decay, specifically on old vehicles like vans and commercial delivery trucks.
