Openings: Gary Baseman – “Vicious” @ Antonio Colombo Arte Contemporanea

Los Angeles-based artist Gary Baseman (featured) recently traveled to Milan for the opening of his solo show at the Antonio Colombo Arte Contemporanea. Featuring thirty new works (drawing and paintings), the new body of work entitled Vicious was enjoyed by his many Italian fans who attended the artist reception where Baseman happily greeted and sketched for some of his admirers. Previews: “Go East” by Mark Moore @ Joshua Liner Gallery

We’re a fan of collaborations especially when it’s between galleries. This week, New York’s Joshua Liner will play host to Los Angeles-based Mark Moore Gallery. The exhibition Go East curated by Mark Moore will showcase talented artists Chad Person, Feodor Voronov, Kenichi Yokono and Yoram Wolberger. The opening reception is tonight at 6-9. Releases: REVOK – “Sacrilege” Print

It look like 1xRUN has great new series of prints planned that go towards funding The Detroit Beautification Project (also supported by Montana Cans and The Seventh Letter) which will bring over a dozen of the world’s premier graffiti artists into the city for a series of murals in the neighborhoods that need them the most. Tomorrow night (April 19th) in Oahu, Loft in Space welcomes back Ryuichi Ogino (OGI) for an exhibition entitled Kigen. AM first met up with OGI back in February for the annual art retreat known as POW WOW, and now the Tokyo-based artist is back for his first solo in Hawaii. You can expect works from him that continue his exploration of anime-inspired characters in whimsical settings while combining elements of modernist illustration, text, sculpture, and installation. Teaser: Tom French & Rone – “Don’t Look Back” @ Zero Cool

Next week Thursday, April 26th, the Zero Cool Gallery will be hosting a joint exhibition by Tom French (featured) and Rone entitled Don’t Look Back. Last we heard, French’s studio was in Newcastle so this will be local for him. It looks like he will be including some of those fantastic skull pieces that play on perspective in this showing while Australian street artist Rone will be contributing some of his stylized portraits. Following up on a showing in Seattle and Los Angeles last year, Travis Louie (interviewed) will continue exploring the idea of his Victorian friends and their unusual pets with a solo in Northampton, Massachusetts. The Secret Pet Society will open on May 2nd at William Baczek Fine Arts and will feature Travis’ distinctive and surreal way of painting his own interpretation of vintage photography. Openings: Kenny Scharf – “Hodgepodge” @ Honor Fraser

Last weekend, the distinctive stylings of Kenny Scharf (interviewed) were put on display at Honor Fraser in Los Angeles. Hodgepodge, his second showing at the gallery, features paintings, sculptures, a Cosmic Cavern installation, and a customized Cadillac, as well as an opening night performance by longtime friend and frequent collaborator, Ann Magnuson.
