Streets: Freedom Park (Berlin)

Artists, what would you give to paint on a piece of history? That’s exactly what happened recently in Germany as artists like Nunca, Miss Van, and McBess were asked to paint on remnants of the Berlin Wall like Chor Boogie did last year for the Stroke.03 Art Fair. This time, the pieces were organized together into a Freedom Park event organized by Dudes Factory and Lux Pop Art Group. More photos after the jump…

This past weekend, Lebasse Projects hosted a traveling exhibition (see SF coverage) which featured collaborations by artists Risk and Nathan Ota. Titled That Was Then, This Is Now, the show brought together the two long time friends for an exhibit which showcased a superb collection of artwork diplaying each artist’s strengths and respective styles. While Risk’s work often focused on graffiti-type iconography and lettering, Ota rendered the rest of the paintings with finely detailed settings and characters that at times felt surreal and strange. Openings: Damon Soule – “Then What Happened” @ FFDG

Saturday evening saw the opening of Damon Soule’s latest show, Then What Happened at Fecal Face Dot Gallery (previewed). The show featured a series of paintings in a variety of sizes that visually expressed the scientific aspects of Time (such as wave collapse and special relativity) and using it as a base to build upon. Last week, AM paid a visit to the studio of the street art collective known as Cyrcle. Combining their different backgrounds which blend graffiti, fine art and design, the trio will debut their first solo exhibition this coming Thursday over at Design Matters located in West Hollywood. Coming up on October 14th, Tim Biskup will be back in Los Angeles for a solo show at THIS Gallery featuring new paintings and sculptures. Focusing on other projects, we haven’t seen many exhibitions from the Biskup as of late with the last show in LA being at De La Barracuda in 2009 (not counting his installation at The Standard Hollywood). Releases: Joe Ledbetter – 12″ Mutant Bunny (Hand Painted)

For those looking to round out their custom art figure collection, you’ll want to pay attention to this. Joe Ledbetter is releasing a series of 40 hand-painted unique 12″ Mutant Bunny pieces (sculpted by Pretty in Plastic). Priced at $1500, the nicely sized pieces are priced reasonably considering what his customs go for on the market. In addition, the paint job seems to take to the resin better when compared to vinyl.
