Streets: Interesni Kazki (Ibiza)

After featuring some of Interesni Kazki’s impressive surrealistic murals in Barcelona and Russia here on AM, we turn to their newest wall, this time in Ibiza. The Ukranian street duo were in town for Bloop Festival, an art event focusing on an interesting phenomenon – an extremely powerful underwater sound detected by the NOAA (National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration) years ago with the source of the sound is still unknown. Openings: “Summer Invitational” @ Jonathan LeVine Gallery

Summer is coming down the home stretch and people are getting ready to take their last vacations before fall. This also means that it was time for Jonathan LeVine Gallery to hold its annual Summer Invitational group show (previewed). Mr. Levine took time to exhibit a select batch of artists including Daniel Martin Diaz, Eric Fortune, Hello Monsters, Edwin Ushiro, Dick Chicken, Melissa Haslam, Above, Nicoletta Ceccoli, Yuko Shimizu, Jennifer Delilah and Meryl Smith on the gallery walls. Art Focus: Korehiko Hino

This week’s Art Focus features the haunting works of Korehiko Hino. The Japanese painter is known for his portraits of characters in trance-like states with large unblinking eyes often superimposed on vibrant backgrounds. When viewing his paintings, one can’t help looking into the mesmerizing and disturbing gaze of his subject, engaging in a staring contest that can’t be won. It’s been almost a year since we caught up with Damon Soule at his New York showing, but it looks like he has been putting his time to good use. Then What Happened will open tomorrow night, August 20th at the Fecal Face Dot Gallery in San Francisco and will feature his vibrant and organic imagery, some looking pretty large-scale. Preview: Ken Garduno – “Golden Structure” @ LeBasse Projects – Chinatown

Tomorrow night, August 19th, Ken Garduno will be presenting a new body of work at the LeBasse Projects Chinatown location. Golden Structure features the LA-based artist’s watercolor and ink paintings where he will be exploring themes of relationships. The often unsettling facial expressions and settings create a “dialog riddled with jealosy, betrayal, and a prounounced sense of sexual tension.” More preview images after the jump…

Last Friday, the C.A.V.E. Gallery and Brooklyn Street Art in collaboration with Thinkspace presented an exhibit titled 39 Stories: Street Art Saved My Life. The exhibit featured 39 different artists including the likes of Anthony Lister, Futura, Judith Supine, Know Hope, Faile, and Swoon to many other names familiar to AM readers. A couple nights ago, the São Paulo Museum of Art (MASP) played host to the opening of De Dentro e De Fora or Inside Out Outside In, seemingly a repeated title for many recent street art exhibitions and videos in some variation or another. Tonight (7pm-11pm), Wooster Street Social Club will present a special group exhibition called Yard Dogs. The show pays homage to the graffiti roots of New York City where 15 veteran writers including KR, BIO, T-Kid 170, Keo, NICER, James Top, PNUT2, Rebel, CES, SHARP, Fritos, NIC 707, CEY, REVOLT and Tracy 168 will showcase new works.
