Here’s a look at something KAWS is working on (reminiscent of a piece he painted for the gallery last November) for the Emmanuel Perrotin booth at this year’s Art Hong Kong. After stirring up the fanboys with news of an imminent wood Karimoku companion release, the street turned contemporary artist follows up with news that he will be unleashing his double x’s at the vital Asian fair, a wise choice considering the market. Yesterday, on a beautiful sunny afternoon at Barnsdall Park in East Hollywood, the 2011 City of Los Angeles (C.O.L.A.) Individual Artist Fellows showed off their recent work at the LA Municipal Art Gallery. After first working on a wall in Melrose (covered) several days ago, it finally came time to reveal Hush’s (interviewed) newest collection of works at New Image Art in West Hollywood. Continuing his collaboration with The Hundreds, Mark Dean Veca (interviewed) will be releasing a skate deck and kicks (Johnson Mid) featuring his signature “Toile de Jouy” abstractions. The shoe’s pattern is based on the image above which is also chock full of pop references like Hank Williams, Franz Kline, Ed Ruscha’s Hollywood Sign, Lil’ Annie Fannie, and Green Eggs and Ham. On a busy Saturday night of art in Los Angeles, make sure you add Kent Williams’ opening at Merry Karnowsky to your gallery hopping itinerary. The collection of paintings entitled Convergence incorporates some of the work shown in New Mexico last September (covered) along with some new pieces all featuring his distinctive take on classical studies of the human form, some quite impressive in scale as you will see from these preview images. UK street artist Sweet Toof recently visited New York to show his latest series of indoor works at Brooklyn gallery Factory Fresh. Moving his iconic outdoor “Toofy” characters from the gritty urban arena into a more subtle indoor setting, Sweet Toof focused on creating beautiful oil on canvas paintings. Of course, it wouldn’t be a show if there wasn’t some outdoor art. Sweet also hit up the exteriors along with a vehicle beautification campaign.
