With D*Face’s (interviewed) solo opening tonight at the Metro Gallery, it’s about time we updated you on his work in the streets leading up to the show. From the looks of things, his oversized spray can installations seem to be popular, but check out the other photos of D getting his logo up all over Melbourne, as well as an invitation to join the Order of the Wings. Pics after the jump…

Portuguese artist Vhils’ unique work is always in high demand and because of this, he has been busy hitting up the hottest street art events around the world recently. Ever since we filmed his work in Los Angeles in August, he has consecutively hit up the Fame Festival, Walk & Talk Festival, a store facade in the UK, Nuart Festival, the Minotaur event, Wynwood Walls in Miami, and now finally back to his home country for the WOOL Festival in Covilhã. Last month in Berlin, the Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung Foundation’s Human Rights Award for 2011 was awarded to Khaled Said of Egypt and Slim Amamou of Tunisia. Said’s sister, Zahraa Kassem received the award on the late activist’s behalf at a ceremony that included the unveiling of a portrait created by Andreas von Chrzanowski (aka Case) on remnants of the Berlin Wall and will be eventually placed in the Freedom Park (covered). Case, who we last caught up with at the Outside/In show in Los Angeles, utilized his […]

Two members of the Army of Snipers crew, Aaron “Angry Woebots” Martin and Pixel Pancho, recently teamed up together for some large murals in Los Angeles. Martin doesn’t usually go so big, but his friend and collaborator from Italy showed the way. We especially like this wall with Martin’s signature panda character changed into a grizzly and Pixel Pancho with his robotic version. More photos after the jump…

This week, our Art Focus is on Philadelphia-based Matthew Cox, whose series of medical x-rays and embroidery recently caught our eyes. The Parsons and Otis trained artist has taken radiographs and stitched back in his imagined content partially over the skeletal elements leading to an intriguing new mesh of reality and the imaginary. For those interested, Embroidered X-Rays will be showing at the Packer/Schopf Gallery (Booth E-407) this year at PULSE in Miami, part of Art Basel Week. This particular series of works is just one […]

Wow, it looks like Wynwood Walls is really trying to the get the jump on this year’s US rendition of Art Basel. After alerting you to some RETNA activity down in Miami and then a subsequent update (ROA, Gaia, Nunca, HOW & NOSM, the Date Farmers, Faile, and Bast), it’s time for another look as Kenny Scharf, Interesni Kazki, and Saner & Sego have rolled into town and we have some new pieces from the Date Farmers and Vhils as well. More photos after the […]

Another participant (also see ROA) of the Wide Open Walls project in Gambia was muralist Know Hope. The Israel-based street poet is certainly a good choice to uplift the rural area, hopefully increasing tourism by transforming the area into a living art village. While there, he painted multiple walls including one that feature a thought bubble for “residents to use as a bulletin board for messages, notes, secrets and hopes.” More photos after the jump via Unurth.

Guess who’s next up to bat for the infamous NYC wall located at the corner of Houston & Bowery? The boys that form the Brooklyn collective known as Faile (featured) took their swing and made their home city proud with this new mural seen above. Following in the footsteps of urban heavyweights such as Kenny Scharf, Barry McGee, Shepard Fairey, Os Gemeos, Keith Haring and most recently JR, the Patrick’s took this challenge head on. AM was invited to catch them hard at work creating the unique composition that features vintage […]

With the death of Muammar Gaddafi and the fall of his repressive regime, there apparently has been a predictable surge in creative energy in Libya. Some of this has been seen in the increased graffiti and street art murals across the county, much of it political and decked out in red, green, and black – the colors of the new Libyan flag. More inspiring images after the jump via Upperspace.
