You have an opportunity to find out tonight when the Gregorio Escalante Gallery opens their first show in Los Angeles’ Chinatown. Curated by C. R. Stecyk, III, the exhibition puts a selection of work on display from Escalante’s private collection including pieces from Robert Williams, Ed Ruscha, John Baldessari, Chris Burden, Shepard Fairey, Jeff Soto (seen above) and more. Openings: Cleon Peterson – “Poison” @ Library Street Collective

Over the weekend, the Library Street Collective hosted the opening for a new show from Cleon Peterson in Detroit. Poison features new paintings featuring nightmarish scenes of violence and gore, nothing new to fans of the former assistant to Shepard Fairey. What is new though are the sculptural editions that Peterson has included in the new body of work, a natural next step to bringing his provocative imagery to life. Photo credit: Sal Rodriguez. CAC Málaga, in collaboration with the British Council, recently opened up the first solo exhibition in Spain from D*Face (interviewed). The London-based artist’s work was seen for the first time in Málaga in 2013 when he created an immense mural for the MAUS Project (covered) along with Shepard Fairey. Taking part in the ongoing Maus Malaga 2015, street art legend Kenny Scharf just spent a few days on the Mediterranean, getting up some of his signature work. Working on the east side of the river Guadalmedina, the LA-based artist added his work to a local wall of fame, along with Ben Eine, Felipe Pantone, Javi Calleja, under the massive murals by D*Face and Shepard Fairey. Provocative painter Cleon Peterson has worked with the Library Street Collective before like during last year’s Art Basel Week in Miami (covered). Their new collaborative effort, a show entitled Poison, will be opening on August 29 at the LSC gallery space in Detroit and will no doubt feature more powerful and barbaric imagery from the former assistant to Shepard Fairey, drawing from his experiences and dark past.
