Recap: Project M/5 (Berlin)

With a glimpse of the setup to whet your appetite yesterday, here is now the main course – completed photos from Project M/5 from Urban Nation. The lineup, curated by Roland Henry and VNA Magazine, featured Mark Lyken, Inkie, Pam Glew, Fran Bosoletti, Will Barras, Eine, Steff Plaetz, Nick Walker, O. Our regular readers will know what we have been enamored with the work of Tauba Auerbach for quite some time now. One of New York-based artist’s projects that we have been following (NY Book Fair, release, launch party) is her amazing [2,3] Pop-up Book. The slip-cased collection of six portfolios, feature intricately folded paper forms that seamlessly transform into three-dimensional geometric scuptures when open. New Yorkers are in for a treat next month (September 12th) as José Parlá will be returning for another showing (see 2011 & 2013) at Bryce Wolkowitz Gallery. IN MEDIA RES will the second solo with the showspace from the Brooklyn-based artist after a joint exhibition with JR last year. Whenever some of the Furtherrr Collective boys get together (see 2012, 2013, 2013), you can expect something special to go down. That’s exactly what happened last week in Denver at Cultivate Colorado (666 Buchtel Blvd.) when Mars-1, Damon Soule, and Oliver Vernon combined their powers create this otherworldly mural. With imagery from the three artists that mesh so well together, the new wall is a welcome addition to the cityscape and will stand as a testament to their talent. Releases: James Jean – “Tiger III” Print

Next week, James Jean (interviewed) will be releasing a new signed and numbered print, Tiger III, on his website. As a timed release, the limited edition will be available for 24 hours starting at 8:00 AM PDT on Tuesday, August 19th and ending at 7:59 on Wednesday the 20th with the run being determined by demand. From the 15th till 19th of August, gallery Ruttkowski;68 in Cologne will be showing the new works from this year’s MyFinBec project. The annual series organized by the winery Cave Fin Bec in Switzerland commissions artists to create wine labels for their special limited edition organic wine. This year’s lineup included VHILS from Portugal, Herakut from Germany, C215 from France, and Etam Cru from Poland. In every instance, eight different labels were painted on stacks of 84 crates each. Paris-based street artist André Saraiva opened a showing at the Museum of Design and Fashion (MUDE) in Lisbon last month. Featuring one of the most recognizable characters in the street art world, an exuberant stick-figure alter ego, Mr. A, as well as many other aspects of his career spanning graffiti, painting, street art, installation, sculpture and film, the exhibition is a retrospective (open through Sept. 28) that brings the artist of Portuguese origin back to his roots.Take a look at the diverse collection of works below… Photo credit: Stick2Target.
