Streets: Banksy – “Better Out Than In” (New York) – Day 3

For his third act in his ongoing street residency in New York, the UK-based Banksy created a new stenciled piece near 24th & 6th street. The image of a dog and fire hydrant’s relationship demonstrated Mr. B’s humor to his fans in the Big Apple once again. Streets: Os Gemeos x Mark Bode (San Francisco)

After Os Gemeos stopped by Los Angeles to promote their collaboration with Hennessy on a new bottle design, they headed up north to paint some public art in the Bay Area. One of the murals they got up was a joint effort with the San Fran-based Mark Bode. Featuring one of the twins signature yellow-skinned character riding Bode’s father’s Cheech Wizard, the piece can be seen on the back of the Warfield Theatre near 6th and Market Street. Structures: Alex Chinneck – “From the Knees of My Nose to the Belly of My Toes”

British designer Alex Chinneck has made over the facade of an abandoned building in Margate, England which he entitled From the Knees of My Nose to the Belly of My Toes. The project brings to mind the Dalston House by Leandro Erlich which we shared with your earlier this year and has the same whimsical feel to it. Releases: Brendan Monroe x Mars1 – “Ascender” Print

Rarely has collaborations melded the styles of two artists resulting an image so stunning like the painting that resulted in a new print release from Brendan Monroe (interviewed) & Mars-1. Ascender is now available on Monroe’s webstore, with the paper size at 33.7 x 24.5 inches & image size 31.3 x 22.5 inches. The print will be in a edition of 100, signed and numbered, and cost $225. Openings: Amy Sol – “Incantation” @ CHG Circa

Last month, AM stopped by the opening of Amy Sol’s (interviewed) solo show at CHG Circa entitled Incantation. As the name of the exhibition suggestions, many of the new paintings were thematically tied to the idea of magic. Streets: Banksy – “Better Out Than In” (New York) – Day 2

Before Banksy could even put up a second piece from his ongoing monthlong Better Out Than In project on the streets of New York, his first effort already had a portion of it stolen and then painted over. The Big Apple arose this morning to a new piece though featuring the British street legend’s signature cheeky humor (reportedly on West 25th Street between 10th and 11th Avenues). Hush For TAO Downtown (New York)

Over the weekend, TAO held a monster party to launch their new location at the Maritime Hotel in Chelsea, their second New York location. Over the course of four weeks leading up to the grand opening, the UK-based Hush’s (interviewed) was asked to create multiple large-scale installations for the  mega-clubrestaurant, essentially guiding the design of the interiors thematically with is his east meats west urban aesthetic and the geisha girls that have populated his works of late. Openings: Tim Biskup – “Charge” @ Martha Otero Gallery

Over the weekend, Tim Biskup (featured) opened a solo show at the Martha Otero Gallery in Los Angeles entitled Charge. The new body of work showed the locally based artist’s versatility with works of all sizes including one of his largest paintings to date as well as an interactive piece that first was seen at the FYF Fest where fans were encouraged to pose in cutout holes and then upload the photos to Instagram under the tag #headinthehole. Bristol’s elusive street artist, Banksy, just launched a website, BanksyNY.com, which is dedicated to a new project he hinted at on his official website some 10 days ago. According to the site, Better Out Than In appears to be a month long street residency during which Banksy will be attempting to host an entire show on the streets of New York.
