Openings: Sylvia Ji – “Interwoven” @ FFDG

San Francisco native and now Los Angeles-based painter, Sylvia Ji, opened her solo show Interwoven at Fecal Face Dot Gallery last Friday evening. The show featured new paintings on wood that feature traditional patterns interwoven with The Day of the Dead motifs as well as expanding on her work with the female form incorporating similar elements. Kenny Scharf Car “Tags”

It looks like Kenny Scharf (interviewed), who recently showed in New York (covered), has been painting on fans’ cars recently. What started off several weeks ago in the Big Apple has progressed to the West Coast where he has been filling requests in Los Angeles. If you are interested in joining in on the fun and getting the NY legend’s distinctive characters in what he calls “tagged” on your car, try and reach out to him on Instagram. José Parlá Mural at the Hunt Library (North Carolina)

After opening his collaborative show (covered) a couple months ago in New York with JR, José Parlá headed off on his own to complete a personal project. Conceived of over five years ago, the new piece in the James B. Hunt Library will greet students at the North Carolina State University as they strive for higher learning. Entitled Nature of Language, the mural features the NY-based artist’s signature urban calligraphy. Discuss Jose Parla here.

Streets: Interesni Kazki in Vodnjan, Croatia

Ukrainian muralists Waone and AEC, known as Interesni Kazki, recently finished another mural in an old town of Vodnjan, Croatia, for the Boombarstick Festival. AEC already created a mural couple of months ago over there, as an opening piece for the upcoming festival. Only few weeks after finishing their Lisbon mural, and releasing their first ever print edition, both artists arrived to Croatia to work on an even more complex piece. MSK members Pose and Revok (pictured above with gallerist Levine) recently visited New York City and immediately made their mark by being the current artists to work on the highly visible Bowery & Houston Mural (here & here). Preview: MOMO show in Grottaglie, Italy

Tonight in Grottaglie, Italy, Momo will be putting on a new solo exhibition with the people behind the annual Fame Festival. After tooling around the Cuba & Jamaica, painting in the streets with his geometrically-inclined imagery, he will be returning to Southern Italy with some new pieces inspired by his travels.
