Videos: Robert Longo – “Man in the City” for NOWNESS

Earlier today, NOWNESS released a new video feature on American artist Robert Longo and his iconic charcoal drawings. Included in the footage is an interview with the NY-based painter where he touches on many topics including why he works in black & white, how he made it big with his Man in the City imagery, how to stay relevant as an artist gets older, and the idea of truth. Tomorrow night in Beverly Hills (June 19th 6-8pm), the Lladró Boutique will be holding a release party for the Gary Baseman (interviewed) designed version of their Guest porcelain figure. Studio Visits: Hisham Echafaki

AM recently had the chance to visit pop-surrealist painter Hisham Echafaki‘s studio. Using acrylic and oil paint, the London-based artist loves exploring symetry and patterns, as well as depicting animals in a surreal environment, as shown in his kufic and butterflies series. We were fortunate to document some of the painting process of his Anthropomorphic Bowie pieces as he prepared for the upcoming group show The Many Faces of David Bowie at the Opera Gallery London. Upcoming: Peter Chan – “Soliloquy” @ Copro Gallery

Next Saturday night (June 22nd), the Copro Gallery in Los Angeles will be presenting a new show from Peter Chan. For his first solo with the gallery and in the United States, the Toronto-based artist has created a series of works collectively entitled Soliloquy, a fitting title considering the introspective contemplations he had while producing these paintings (see statement below).
