Last week, Galerie Perrotin opened a solo show from Madsaki entitled French Fries with Mayo, the first time the Japanese artist has exhibited in Paris. On view are mostly pieces featuring his wife as his muse and pieces from his signature Wannabe series, crude imitations done in spray paint that initially can be be seen as critiques on masterworks from art history, but in actuality are his “attempts to use laughter and humor as both distraction and therapy for his internal turmoil.” To prepared for the exhibition, he […]

Releases: Skullphone – “California Collection” Print Set

Poster Child Prints recently released some new limited editions from Skullphone as a three part print series. Created in runs of 100, Gold Foil Grid, West Covina and Locksmith are $125, $75, and $50 respectively and come signed and numbered. Each piece features a version of the street artist’s iconic namesake and alternatively can also be purchased as a California Collection set at a discount. Discuss Skullphone here.

Tomorrow night (September 15th) in Los Angeles, Arcadia Contemporary will be presenting some recent paintings from John Brosio. The new body of work includes many of the locally-based artist’s suburban landscapes, tinged with surreal features in the background like dinosaurs, natural disasters, and the monsters – with unsuspecting people in the foreground going about their daily life. Over the weekend, Soey Milk premiered Inflorescence, her second solo show (see 2015) to date with Corey Helford Gallery. The collection of over 20 paintings and drawings highlighted significant moments in Milk’s life. Those who attended the premiere may have felt a sense of familiarity with some of the crowd. Last weekend, YESNIK and Jaybo presented some new works for fans in Los Angeles with a surprisingly cohesive three day pop up show. Presented by F-U (For the Unconventional), For Better or Worse featured totemic nature-inspired works from the San Diego-based YESNIK that had a collage-like feel to the balanced compositions alongside Berlin-based Jaybo Monk’s portrait mashups which were described as “a fractured vision of contemporary society.” Both artists contributed sculptural pieces to exhibition – an eclectic selection of assemblages from Jaybo and some large-scale three dimensional representations of YESNIK’s imagery […]

This Thursday (September 13th), Conor Harrington (interviewed) will be opening a solo show in London entitled The Story of Us and Them. Consisting of 12 new works, the exhibition to be hosted by HENI Gallery sees the Irish artist explore the fine line between tribalism and patriotism.
