Streets: David Flores @ The Reserve L.A. (Los Angeles)

Over the weekend, artist David Flores finished a new mural at the new creative campus named “The Reserve L.A.” which is the new home of the Microsoft and TMZ offices. This artistic project for The Reserve is part of several murals that Branded Arts was brought in to organize and curate. Using a photograph of Albert Einstein as his source, Flores created a mural that’s actually made up of two layers, giving it a three-dimensional look. Releases: Josh Keyes x Tiny Showcase – “Dawn II”

Continuing his collaboration with Tiny Showcase, Josh Keyes (interviewed) has chosen another image for his current print release – Dawn II. On sale through Tuesday, May 7th, the open timed release edition is available as a framed or unframed version. For his charity, Keyes has chosen to donate $10 dollars from each print sold to the Boston-based Artists For Humanity. Head over here if you are interested. Discuss Josh Keyes here.

Openings: Rostarr @ Opera Gallery (NYC)

Opening alongside SABER (covered) a couple weeks ago was the New York-based artist Rostarr (featured). Premiering an entirely fresh body of work for his solo debut with the gallery, the Brooklyn native wowed the packed opening night crowd at the NY Opera Gallery. Utilizing his unique graphically charged visuals, Ro gave us a look at his new direction which held both metallic and oxidized textures, which paired nicely with his tribal-esqe repetitious optical vocabulary. It was a night to remember. Last week, the Skirball Cultural Center in Los Angeles opened its doors to an extensive survey of Gary Baseman’s career and life entitled The Door Is Always Open. Friends, family, fellow artists, collectors, admirers, and well wishers alike attended to show their respects to the pervasive artist and his illustrious accomplishments. West coast graffiti legend SABER (interviewed) recently stopped by the Big Apple to showcase a new body of work at Opera Gallery. Taking another step in his abstraction style, the street titan created a series that was quite moving with paintings that blurred the boundaries between sharp & tactical and smooth & strategic. Currently showing at the Jonathan LeVine Gallery through May 4th is Thursday’s Girl from painter Josh Agle, otherwise known as SHAG (interviewed). For his fourth solo exhibition with the Chelsea showspace, the Socal-based painter presents a new body of work inspired by “All Tomorrow’s Parties, the classic Velvet Underground song in which lyrics written by Lou Reed spoke to New York’s downtown art scene found in places such as Warhol’s Factory.” The pieces reflect an aesthetic strongly influenced by mid-century modern design and are rendered in his distinctive style and palette. Streets: José Parlá x JR @ Bryce Wolkowitz

In preparation for their joint show opening on May 7th at the Bryce Wolkowitz Gallery, JR and José Parlá worked on a mural together in Chelsea over the weekend.
