Another week, another Streets: World Roundup. For this edition, our headlining mural is from the Los Angeles-based Andrew Hem (interviewed). This latest piece located on the rooftops of Koreatown features a break dancing character painted with a background that is meant to blend in with the sky under certain conditions. Over the weekend, AM was invited to a special event presented by New Image Art & Robert Galstian at RETNA’s (featured) studio timed nicely to coincide with the Art Los Angeles Contemporary. Along with a look at his spacious work space and refreshments, guests were also allowed to participate in an auction of available works to benefit Inner-City Arts. Preview: Dan May – “Patient Season”

Going public early this week will be Dan May’s (interviewed) latest selection of work, collectively entitled Patient Season. The new drawings and paintings ranging in size from 6″ X 6″ to 18″ X 24″ will be available online and will bring together themes of hope, peace, love, mystery, and intrigue. Later next month, the Cella Gallery will be hosting a group show entitled Something Wicked This Way Comes featuring artists who have practice rendering the surreal and macabre. Curated by Stephanie Chefas, the roster includes Annie Owens, Christian Rex van Minnen, Christine Wu, Chrystal Chan, David Ball, Fulvio Di Piazza, Jana Brike, Jessica Ward, Judith Supine, and Michael Page (interviewed) – whose painting of some corporate types you see above. Following directly on from our studio visit with John Bocksel leading up to Curio‘s Sea Of Blasphemy group exhibition opening on 26th January, filmmaker Jarcob Arden McClure just finished this video profile of artist Bill McRight, who is also participating in the grouping along with Ben Venom, and Bonnie Brenda Scott. The video gives an interesting behind the scenes look into McRight’s studio as well as a history of how he came to concentrate his practice of making shanks and improvised weapons.
