Openings: Rostarr – “IKONOCLYSM” @ Common Gallery

Last month, the Common Gallery in Tokyo filled their walls with work from Romon Kimin Yang (AKA Rostarr). As you saw in our studio visit prior to the opening, the NY-based artist prepared a series of diverse work featuring his signature calligraphy coupled with some references to Japan for this latest showing. Basel Week Switzerland ’12: Galerie Perrotin

The preeminent art fair for the world, Art Basel, opens soon in Switzerland with the top galleries and blue chip artists around the world sending in their top work for collectors to peruse. Openings: COPE2 – “Resilient” @ Dorian Grey

Bronx street & graffiti artist COPE2 recently opened up a new show at New York’s Dorian Grey Gallery. After seeing his signature bubble tag style at recently at exhibitions & on the streets, we check COPE twisting it to bring a different look by focusing less on his famous tag for his indoor works and a little more on the street element with his aerosols. Preview: Patrick Martinez – “Lovely Day” @ Known Gallery

This Saturday (June 16th), Known Gallery will play host to Patrick Martinez’s latest show Lovely Day. In his second solo exhibition with the LA space (see the first one here), Patrick will bring another dose of his crisp neon works. Teaser: Laurie Lipton – “L.A. Sous-Real” @ Ace Gallery (Los Angeles)

Coming up next month, Laurie Lipton (interviewed) will be opening her latest solo L.A. Sous-Real at the Ace Gallery in Los Angeles. Featuring her amazing skills with graphite and charcoal, the gifted artist will be putting on display a series of work featuring her signature surreal and hyper-detailed imagery, often executed with witty and biting commentary (LA is ripe for the taking don’t you think?). Streets: Flying Fortress x Nychos (Detroit)

It looks like the Detroit Beautification Project is still rolling along with this newest mural, a collaboration between Flying Fortress and Nychos. If you remember, the Germany and Vienna-based artists (respectively) have hooked up before (Dublin & Vienna) for a synergistic brand of imagery. Teaser: Case – “MayFair Lady” with Shea&Ziegler (London)

In his first solo in London in over 2 years, Andreas von Chrzanowski aka Case will be presenting a new body of work entitled MayFair Lady. Arranged Shea&Ziegler at The Gallery in Mayfair (99 Mount Street), the exhibition will put photorealistic spray skills of the German street muralist and Maclaim crew member on full display starting on June 22nd. Openings: Prune Nourry – “Holy River” @ The Invisible Dog

Last month, Prune Nourry premiered her solo exhibition Holy River at The Invisible Dog Art Center in Brooklyn. The packed opening night showcased the talents of Ms. Nourry with her unique style of mixing traditional mediums such as photography, sculpture, and installation in addition to her creative use of video (seen here) and performance art. The subjects focused on were the citizens of India, their unique gender selection, and traditions surrounding water which she observed and researched over the course of 3 years.
