Art HK ’12 Art Fair – First Look (Part II)

After giving you our pictorial first impressions from Art Hong Kong, we return for more of the action on the second floor. Look who we came across – Murakami-san. Openings: “FRENCH INVASION” @ Fabien Castanier Gallery

Several days ago, the Fabien Castanier Gallery in Los Angeles hosted a group show for a selection of French street artists appropriately entitled FRENCH INVASION. Featuring the likes of Speedy Graphito, JonOne, Nasty, Rero and Tilt, the space was filled with paintings, installations, silkscreens and sculpture from each artist. Aaron Horkey fans out there, tomorrow will be your next chance to get ahold of one of his works, albeit a limited edition. His Andrew Bird screenprint will be available at Friday, May 18th at “around” 2pm Central Time at Postersandtoys. Mars-1, Oliver Vernon, & Damon Soule Mural (Arizona)

Not new to mind-blowing collaborations (see 2010), three members of the Furtherrr Collective got together for another mural in Arizona. Painted at the Flagstaff Brewing Company, friends Mars-1, Oliver Vernon, and Damon Soule each added their ingredients to the organic brew resulting in a vibrant, kinetic, and large piece for the public to enjoy. Last Saturday evening, Shooting Gallery hosted the opening of Samuel Lowder aka Freprs’s exhibition entitled Time Machine. This ex-90’s graffiti artist has fully transitioned into creating pop art pieces incorporating layered stencils, with hidden details to be picked out when viewed closely.
