Phlegm: Squid Boat

Known for his penchant for painting murals of boats and creatures of the sea, for example Whale of a Time and The Harnessing of Giant Squids, Phlegm has taken it to the next level and painted an actual boat. The effect is quite striking when seen half submerged and makes us want to see how the mural on the jet he painted would look in the air. More pics after the jump…

This past weekend, Thinkspace Gallery presented Tran Nguyen’s solo show titled The Synapse Between Here and There. The work on display showed a great mix of her work which included traditional paintings, detailed drawings and sketches. From wall to wall, the Georgia-based artist showed her sensibilities to create paintings which mixed a sense of realism with an aura of fantasy. Tonight in Toronto, a pair of geometrically inclined artists will be teaming up at the Show & Tell Gallery. Aptly named Geometric Balance, the joint showing will feature Dalek’s (interviewed) space monkey abstractions and Greg Lamarche (interviewed) typographic shapes. It looks like Spanish street artist Escif, who recently hit up San Francisco with his friend San, has changed tag team partners. This time it’s prolific street satirist Blu, who recently himself was working with Ericailcane in Italy at the FAME Festival. Last Thursday saw the opening night private preview of the all-female street artist show Miss Danger on the Loose (previewed here) at LAB ART Los Angeles. Curated by KH No. 7, the show featured LA’s very own legendary Becca Midwood, as well as a bevy of emerging talent getting up around the City of Angels. Yesterday, Portuguese-born artist Vhils, who’s known for creating works of art directly into surfaces, visited the Post No Bills gallery space and sketched his signature style onto an adjacent wall. Last Thursday, AM attended the much anticipated unveiling of Flights of Genius by Steve “ESPO” Powers. Created in association with Joshua Liner Gallery and held at the corporate offices of Ogilvy & Mather (see previous project there), the marketing agency commissioned ESPO to create a series of works that lined each floor of the stairwell for the historic building with direct quotes by legendary founder David Ogilvy.
