Saturday night, Martha Cooper (interviewed) launched a special group exhibition at LA’s Carmichael Gallery. If the upcoming Art In The Streets Exhibition at the MOCA is this year’s Superbowl for street & urban art, then consider this show the preceding playoffs. At the end of the month, Sarah Joncas (interviewed) will be opening her new show at the Last Rites Gallery in New York. We last caught up with Sarah back in September of last year at her solo in Los Angeles, and it looks like she has kept busy since working on a new collection of paintings. Openings: COPE2 – “Transition” @ TT Gallery

A true graf legend, COPE2 recently opened up a show in his home city of New York.  The new body of work showing at the TT-Underground Gallery entitled “Transition” was a colorful representation of the “wildstyle” graffiti the writer help popularize starting in the late 70s in South Bronx. Openings: Tessar Lo & Andrew Hem – “MAPS” & “Building From The Ground Up” @ Show & Tell Gallery

Last week, the Show & Tell Gallery in Toronto played host to two new bodies of work, MAPS and Building From The Ground Up, from Tessar Lo and Andrew Hem (interviewed) respectively. Toronto collectors packed the showspace to get a glimpse of Tessar’s eyecatching and colorful abstract paintings as well as Andrew’s whimsical sculptures among other things. Streets: D*Face (Los Angeles) – Part II

Charity: Benefit Art Auction @ TT-Underground

Last Saturday, TT-Underground Gallery in New York City hosted the opening of the “Benefit Art Auction” to display works of art to be put on on eBay (here), with 100% of the proceeds going to the Japan Red Cross and GlobalGiving to aid those effected by the recent tsunami and earthquake in Japan. Preview: Kris Kuksi – “Pneumatic” @ Roq La Rue

Master mixed media cut chemist, Kris Kuski, is set to reveal a new body of work in Seattle tonight, the first since showing at Art Basel Miami (covered) last December. Opening at Roq La Rue, Pneumatic will exhibit the Kansas-based artist’s talents through his signature remixing of found objects and model components (thousands in most cases!) into his self-dubbed “post industrial rocco” sculptural assemblages.
