Os Gemeos unleashed their latest show across the Atlantic in Portugal named “Pra quem mora lá, o céu é lá” (To who lives there, heaven is there). From the looks of this exhibition hosted in Lisbon’s Museu Colecção Berardo, it appears to be as heavenly as the title indicates. Openings: Charming Baker – “Stupid has a new Hero” @ New York Studio Gallery

AM was on hand to experience the private opening of Charming Baker’s latest show “Stupid has a new Hero” at New York Studio Gallery (previewed). The pop up show welcomed a slew of friends and fans of London-based artist’s clever yet abrasive paintings. The “Tiger Tiger Burning Bright” group show opened last week in Seattle and AM friend / fellow Baby Tattooville alumni, Andrew Wong, sent us some pics of the festivities. Streets: Conor Harrington & Know Hope in Israel

So it turns out the mural we got a hint of earlier from Conor Harrington (interviewed) was in Israel. Looks like he teamed up with Know Hope to put up some pretty sick pieces. And it looks like he’s not done yet as he looks to tackle the Israel-Palestine wall. More pics after the jump…

Preview: Logan Hicks, Anthony Lister, and Michael Kalish @ Opera Gallery (NY)

Logan Hicks (interviewed), Anthony Lister’s (interviewed), and Michael Kalish are teaming up for a three person show opening this week (May 19th) at the Opera Gallery in New York. Hicks will be bringing some new stencils including what appear to be some more minimalistic work. Lister looks to be exhibiting some older works and Kalish (whom we are not familiar with) is contributing some pop icon pieces constructed partially with license plates. Video: JR – “Women Are Heroes” Movie

As we mentioned in a previous post, French photographer JR’s film “Women Are Heroes” has been selected for the 63rd Cannes Film Festival. Bringing his project full circle, the movie documents his travels around the world photographing victimized and impoverished women and then pasting them up in their own neighborhoods and towns, sending a powerful message of hope and strength. Openings: Joao Ruas – “III” @ Thinkspace Gallery

Last week, AM had the pleasure of attending the opening of Sao Paulo native Joao Ruas’ show “III” at the recently christened new Thinkspace location. The young artist who replaced James Jean at the helm of the “Fables” franchise was on hand to greet guests who made it out to see his show. Weaving a collection of dreamy imagery, Joao used a diverse mix of oil, acrylic and other mediums while exercising his talents on his mysterious subjects. See the opening night action after the […]

Openings: Roy Lichtenstein – “Still Lifes” @ Gagosian NYC (24th St.)

As one of the cornerstones of the Pop Art movement, Roy Lichtenstein left behind a legacy of phenomenal art that has influence much of the art, design, and marketing that surrounds us today. The Gagosian Gallery in NYC (555 West 24th street location) is currently showing a collection of his works entitled “Still Lifes” with works spanning from 1972 to the early 1980’s and focusing on paintings, sculptures and drawings.
