Recap: Alexandros Vasmoulakis – “My eyes are seeing you” @ Amalias 36

Recently in Athens, Alexandros Vasmoulakis held a brief popup showing at Amalias 36 entitled My eyes are seeing you. The sexually charged and promiscuous narrative from the Greek artist has an interesting setup with a sculptural installation that features male heads obsessively staring at the figures in the paintings and depending on your perspective, the attendees of the show themselves. Take a look at more photos from the exhibition below as well as the individual pieces here. Discuss Alexandros Vasmoulakis here.

More photos here for those interested. Other notable public works come from Ludo – Caribbean, Ladamenrouge – France, Jaz – Austria, Gaia x Cyrcle. – Austria […]

Previews: Alexandros Vasmoulakis – “Figures” @ LeBasse Projects

In a couple hours, the LeBasse Projects in Culver City will open their doors for the opening of Alexandros Vasmoulakis’ solo show entitled Figures. On display will be the Greek artist’s form of loose portraiture, rendered in thick textural strokes and bright colors. Although the initial expressions seen are smiling, when looking at the paintings for a longer period of time, a viewer gets the sense that the subjects may be overdoing their looks of joy and may actually be laughing to hide their pain. Discuss this […]

Streets: World Roundup (June 4 – June 10)

Our Streets: World Roundup feature returns this week with a summary of murals you may have missed out on. Our highlighted piece this time is this monster collaboration from REVOK and RIME of MSK fame for the Detroit Beautification Project. It almost makes AM want to take a trip to the much maligned Motor City to see all the walls for themselves, proof that the project is working. Other notable murals include work from: Jaz – France (source), Graphic Surgery (Poland), Remi/Rough (Melbourne), Dal East […]

Streets: World Roundup (Nov. 28 – Dec. 4)

This week’s world roundup of street work is heavily tilted towards Art Basel Week Miami. With so many artists in town, there was bound to be some overlap on walls and in some cases – collaborations. Not sure if the Buff Monster & COPE2 piece above was planned as a tag team effort, but they seem to fit nicely together. Also included from Miami is more from COPE2, Aiko, ABOVE, JAZ, Anthony Lister x Eine, Pixel Pancho. Other walls from other parts of the world […]
