While in AM was in Hong Kong a couple months ago, besides attending the KAWS solo, the Art Hong Kong fair, an event curated by Suitman, the Daydreaming with… show, and Ai Yamaguchi’s showing, we also stopped by the Gagosian Gallery to check out Andreas Gursky’s first ever exhibition in Asia. The recent opening of a third gallery space in London confirms White Cube ongoing strength, and its presence at the Frieze Art Fair is nothing less than spectacular. LACMA Acquires Gursky Ocean Photographs

According to the New York Times, The Los Angeles County Museum of Art has acquired four Andreas Gursky photographs from the artist’s Gagosian Gallery exhibition, which we covered here. It is unknown how much it paid, but the photographs, based on existing satellite imagery, carried the asking price of $680,000 apiece. LACMA received the funds from an anonymous source and from Steven F. Roth, executive vice president of the World Oil Corporation. This past March 4th will end up being a significant date in the history of Gagosian Gallery in Beverly Hills. The standard-bearer of all contemporary art galleries in the world premiered a major addition to their 90210 space. Shaquille O’Neal’s curatorial debut opened at Flag Art Foundation this past Friday to a mass of curious art fans. A line filled the lobby just for the elevator up to the duplex gallery space on the 9th and 10th floor. We’ve all heard of the unfortunate events to hit the economy in recent months with major financial investment firms going bankrupt and many assets falling to zero.
