Mecka NYC is introducing an interesting project titled INSIDE/OUT, a unique, new event that will merge an exhibition, social media hunt, and fund raising event for Swoon’s (interviewed) ongoing Braddock Tiles event. The show will open on August 23 from 5pm – 9pm at Hotel Particulier in NYC, with the art hunt begining on the same day at 10am. Breeze Block Gallery opened their huge group show Wider than a postcard (previewed) alongside the first solo show in their new gallery 2 space – olive47’s bonita bonita (featured) a couple of weeks back to a packed Portland crowd. Over 400 individual works went into the postcard show with 200 artists providing postcard sized works. On the back of his Space//Form group exhibition last year (covered), Arrested Motion’s Sven Davis is working with Breeze Block Gallery in Portland again on another huge group event entitled Wider than a postcard. Anthony Michael Sneed recently opened his solo exhibition Grand Illusion at San Francisco’s Shooting Gallery. The New York based artist has been previously known for his humorous works of retro 8-bit video game iconography, but this body of work is an elevation into a new level of abstraction and color theory. Utilizing simple palettes with detailed premeditated placement, Anthony created works that renders fantastic optical illusions in both 2-D and 3-D.
