Preview: Basel Week Miami ’10 – Matthew Palladino @ Baer Ridgway Exhibitions

To coincide with this years Art Basel Miami Beach, San Francisco-based Baer Ridgway Exhibitions will be showing a new body of work from enigmatic contemporary artist Matthew Palladino during the New Art Dealers Alliances (NADA) Art Fair. Earlier this year, Palladino made waves with his groundbreaking sold-out solo exhibition, Wonder Box (covered), which showcased the artist’s wonderfully warped visual language executed with near surgeon-like technical precision. With an aesthetic that loosely pays homage to the Bay Area’s Mission School movement, yet in a decidedly more […]

Basel Week Miami ’10: Shepard Fairey @ Wynwood Walls

What’s Basel week without our friend Shepard Fairey? Fortunately, we don’t have to find out this year. He’s already down in Miami installing his mural inside the Wynwood Walls cafe with imagery including “Peace Elephant” and “Mujer Fatal”.  More image of the completed mural after the jump…

Reminder: Ron English – “Status Factory” @ Frank M. Doyle Arts Pavilion (OCC)

Apparently, that mural Ron English (featured) was working on in Miami that we first brought you here is completed.  He ended with a cool extension of the wall piece onto the ground and with the placement of some of his “Camo Deer” figures. We first saw these pieces at his impressive “Status Factory” pop-up show in New York (covered) and for west coast fans of his work, make sure you stop by on Friday night (November 12th) as the show moves to the Frank M. […]

Basel Week Miami ’10: Ron English @ Wynwood Walls

With December just around the corner, you know that AM is itching to get to Basel week down in Miami. Fortunately, Ron English took to recon duty and is currently down in Florida creating this beauty. During last year’s Basel festivities you may remember that Ron created a mural for Primary Flight. This year, he’s working on his contribution to Wynwood Walls sponsored by Tony Goldman. We’re counting the days until we get down to Miami to bring you our annual on-site coverage from Basel […]

Basel Week Miami ‘09 – Regen Projects @ Art Basel

We are not kidding when we say that there was a massive amount of art to be seen and shown from Miami during Art Basel Week.  Continuing with our coverage, we are proud to show you the booth of Regen Projects, one of the most prestigious galleries, not only in Los Angeles, but internationally.  Its stable of artists would make just about any other gallery insane with jealousy and collectors drool.  It includes the top-tier, from John Currin, Richard Prince, Anish Kapoor, and Matthew Barney, […]

Basel Week Miami ’09 – Kenichi Yokono @ Pulse Miami

We always look forward to the Pulse art fair because it is one of the only opportunities for those outside of Tokyo or Los Angeles to see the stunning carved woodblocks of Japanese artist Kenichi Yokono. This year at Pulse Miami, Yokono’s work was jointly shown by LA’s Mark Moore Gallery and Vienna’s Hilger Contemporary. Along with the new black and red pieces we previewed before the fair, the two galleries showed several works from Yokono’s recent “Dreamy Gaze” series, which featured lovely young ladies […]

Basel Week Miami ’09 – Tomio Koyama @ Art Basel

One of our favorite galleries in the world is Tokyo’s Tomio Koyama, which represents many of Japan’s best know artists, as well as such Western artists such as Gert and Uwe Tobias, Mark Ryden and Tom Sachs. At Art Basel this year, Koyama focused mainly on their stable of Japanese artists, including several amazing works by Hideaki Kawashima and Yoshitomo Nara. Check out all the images from their booth, after the jump.

Basel Week Miami ’09 – Joshua Liner Gallery @ Scope

One of the booths we were really impressed with during Art Basel Week was Joshua Liner Gallery’s showcase at SCOPE. It was a diverse group reflecting some of his successes this year from represented artists such as Matsu (interviewed), Kris Kuksi, and Evan Hecox. In addition, the show offered a sneak preview of the tremendous talent in stored for the coming year with works by Dave Kinsey, Dave Kassan, Tony Kanali, Tiffany Bozik, and Travis Louie (interviewed. More images after the jump…

Basel Week Miami ’09 – Yoshitomo Nara @ Art Basel

As certain as seeing rain if you go to Seattle, there are some artists we expect to see during any art fair. So, on our first lap through Art Basel, we were alarmed to not find much work of Japanese blue chipper Yoshitomo Nara. But, after a closer look at his represented galleries including Tomio Koyama and Marianne Boesky, we found lots of love behind the curtain hidden away from the casual fair-goers. Long an AM favorite, we saw some rather unique techniques that are […]

Basel Week Miami ’09 – Laura Ball @ Pulse

At the Pulse art fair, we were constantly running into new and wonderful art work. One of the artists that we were fortunate enough to discover was Laura Ball who showed with both Morgan Lehman Gallery and Kopeikin Gallery. Her primary technique is the use of watercolor with her main subjects being animals and her family members. We found her precision with the dreamy watercolors to be really attractive and one thing that stands out is her use of the blending and bleeding of her watery pigments […]
