Preview: Basel Week Miami ’09 – CHIMERA @ SCOPE

One of the projects we are excited about this year at Art Basel Week is CHIMERA curated by David Hunt.  The show will feature large-scale works installed around SCOPE by 15 artists including Pedro Barbeito, Melissa Brown, Doze Green, Luis Macias, Christof Mascher, Fernando Mastrangelo, Dave McDermott, Ted O’Sullivan, Christoph Steinmeyer, Ouattara Watts, Andrzej Zielinski, Kevin Zucker, and Stephan Doitschinoff aka CALMA – who is fresh off the big MASP show in Brazil. Of course, as you can see above, Jeff Soto (interviewed) will also be […]

Preview: Basel Week Miami ’09 – Joshua Liner Gallery @ SCOPE

For this year’s Art Basel, Joshua Liner will be bringing art from a diverse group of artists including Cleon Peterson, David Kassan, Evan Hecox, James Roper, Kris Kuksi, Shawn Barber, Tiffany Bozic, Tomokazu Matsuyama (interviewed), Tony Curanaj, Travis Louie (interviewed), and Dave Kinsey (look at the fantastic piece above). If you have ever been to the Miami fairs in years past, you’ll know that Josh always puts on a good show.  He’ll be at SCOPE this year so make sure you stop by to see […]

Preview: Basel Week Miami ’09 – Jeff Soto x Jonathan Levine Gallery

Riverside native Jeff Soto (interviewed) will be one of the featured artists with Jonathan Levine Gallery this year at the SCOPE satellite fair. No stranger to Art Basel Week, Soto will be participating in multiple projects and exhibitions (more later), but probably will have the most work dedicated to this mini-show. Expect to see his usual acrylic on wood works and also his continued explorations into watercolor as you can see by “Rock Pile I” (above). More preview images via Soto’s blog after the jump…

Preview: Basel Week Miami ’09 – “Stages” @ O.H.W.O.W. Gallery

After it’s start in France in July, “Stages” will make its final stop before the paintings going to the homes of collectors (purchased to benefit LIVESTRONG).  The exhibition will be on location at this year’s Art Basel Miami at O.H.W.O.W. Gallery (Dec 4 – Dec 6) and like the show’s recent stop in NY, several artists were added to the traveling exhibition – this time, the Clayton Brothers (featured), Erik Parker, and Tomoo Gokita (currently showing at Honor Fraser). Take a look at the Parker […]

Preview: Basel Week Miami ’09 – Team Gallery x Ryan McGinley

After having been featured by Team Gallery at Art Basel Switzerland, the gallery is bringing Ryan McGinley’s newest works to Art Basel Miami.  The photographs being shown at the fair continues his Moonmilk series (remember his show at Alison Jacques Gallery?) and also includes some images from his most recent road trip.  The settings involve locations deep beneath the earth’s surface and now some on or above it.  They integrate the nude body into scenes of nature, almost blending them into one. More images and […]

JR @ Abu Dhabi Art Fair

Looks like intrepid traveler, JR, added Abu Dhabi on the list of places he has visited with his street photography.  To coincide with the annual Abu Dhabi Art Fair, the french wheatpaster was asked to create a large scale installation for the increasingly art-infused capital of the arab emirate. Take a look at a couple more pics after the jump.

Preview: Basel Week Miami ’09 – Sloan Fine Art x Chris Berens

Chris Berens fans attending Art Basel are in for a treat his year as Sloan Fine Art will feature several pieces from him in their booth at SCOPE as a preview to his big New York show opening at their gallery on December 16th. Berens’ soft focus and imaginative work is a result of a unique and time-consuming process and are often homages to the Dutch master painters of yore. We have become increasingly enamored with his work after recent shows in Seattle and Amsterdam […]

Preview: Basel Week Miami ’09 – Scope x New Image Art x Judith Supine

Art Basel Miami is just around the corner and AM is excited to be providing on-site coverage of the biggest stateside art fair of the year (just like we did last year). In the next couple weeks, you’ll see more previews leading up to Basel, but we will start things off with telling you about New Image Art and their focus on Judith Supine this year. They will be bringing multiple pieces from the collage master to SCOPE (one of the satellite fairs), and we can’t wait […]

Frieze Art Fair

Frieze Art Fair takes place every October in Regent’s Park, London and this year, over 60,000 people step through the doors to take in all the art on display. There were signs of renewed confidence in the market as there appeared to be increased buying in the under $1 million range, but higher priced works still were not moving well. The good news for those who were only there to window shop last week was the fact that there was plenty of nice art to […]

Openings: Ray Caesar @ Art London

AM stopped by Richard Goodall’s booth at the Art London fair a couple weekends ago to check out the work of Ray Caesar. As we previously mentioned, Caesar was showing both new and old works, all demonstrating his imaginative prowess and skill at creating images that aren’t easily forgotten.  Eschewing the more classical artistic techniques, he proves that the sometimes even more time-consuming digital works can be just as riveting if done properly. More images after the jump….
